TIMETIME: RPG Map Creator Use TILETIME to construct your own RPG worlds. The program is complete and you can even save your maps to your hard-drive. You control a cross-hairs cursor around the screen and use space-bar to place tiles(sprites) on SCREEN 13. This engine is modified heavily from Tek's Tile Engine(Thanks Tek). To change tiles, press the ENTER key and a small window will pop up. Now you can use the arrow keys to cycle through various sprites in memory. Actually these tiles are used in Talbot's Vision. A counter shows which sprite you are currently viewing. Example -1: will show the tree tile. You will also see help notes on the small window named "SPRITE SELECTION SCREEN" that will guide you through the keystrokes to edit your map. The "S" key will allow you to save a map, the space-bar places tiles on the screen, the "E" key turns on erase mode, the "O" key turns off erase mode, the "G" key will grab(copy) a sprite from the screen, the "T" key will draw trails of sprites each time a arrow key is pressed and the ESC key will return you to the Editor. Below I will explain in more detail how each key works. ****************************************************** Arrow Keys: Navigate the cross-hairs around the screen. You can scroll up/down/left/right. "S" - Save Map: You will be presented with a prompt that asks for the map name. Don't type the .MAP extention, just name the file, such as MAP1. SPACE-BAR: Places a tile on the screen with a simple keypress. ESC key: Returns you to the Editor(draw mode) "E" - Erase Mode: Allows you to clear tiles from the screen (I plan to remove this feature later) "G" - Grab Mode: Center the cross-hairs over a tile and press the G key (make sure Caps lock is on). Then move to a different section of the screen and press the SPACE-BAR. The tile you last was on when you pressed "G" will now appear in the new area. You can continue to use this same tile now everytime you press the space-bar. To select a new sprite, use the SPRITE SELECTION SCREEN again. It works like copy. Very useful. "O" key - Turns off Erase Mode: Again I plan to delete this feature later. "T" key: Trail Mode: You will benefit from this key when you want to draw a series of tiles on the screen. Just press the "T" key(make sure Caps Lock is On) and move the cursor around. You will see a repeat drawing of the tile you selected from the SPRITE SELECTION SCREEN. This is especially nice when you are drawing grass tiles, water, etc. Finally at the top of the screen you will see: Example: X:16 Y:9 Tile: - 5: GrabSprite: -1 I will now explain what these parameters mean. X:16 - Shows the horizontal position you are resting at on the screen. Y: 9 - Shows the vertical position you are resting at on the screen. Tile: -5: Means you have selected sprite -5(stone wall) from the SPRITE SELECTION SCREEN. As you navigate around the screen this will change to point to the correct sprite that you are presently on. I hope that helps. You will be amazed at how quickly you can develop new worlds(maps) using this tool. I have saved countless hours of typing in DATA 31,0,-1 when using Qbasic. Now I simply create a map using Tiletime and use my OpenMap subroutine from the program to load up a new map each time. I know there are many other editors out there already, but I'm hoping this will can speed up the time it takes to design a map. GrabSprite: - 1 : Means you pressed the "G" key and was sitting on the tree tile. This will change each time you press G again to point at the new tile. --------------------------------------------------- Again, have fun. Let me know about any games(or demos) you come up with using this tool. Your web pal: Steve
