Other primates

The alleged "yeti hand", which has never been truly identified and remains the best proof of yeti's existence

These creatures are other kinds of primates (pongids, monkeys, lemuroids, ect) which are not recognised by modern science. Some are small and insignificant, and thus hard to find information on. There are countless South American monkeys, like marmosets, that the natives claim exist but that western scientists do not countas existing. I will not list them here, because there are too many, they are hard to find information on, and have no english name. I am including as many mystery primates as possible however, so don't think this is an incomplete list, I'm just excluding the South American monkeys.

  • Skunk ape (Florida NA): Sometimes confused as being a southren version of the sasquatch, the skunk ape is really an anthropoid ape, similar to an orangutan or a chimpanzee. Most probably, at one time apes were common in the New and Old world, but started to get rarer. The "known" apes are the remnants from the Old world, and apes like the skunk ape are the remnants from the New world. Probably related to orangutans, or a member of a whole new group of North American apes (napes).

  • Mississippi "wildmen" (Mississippi river region NA): Frederik Gerstakker(?) reported that the locals around the Mississippi river were very familiar with a chimpanzee-like animal they called a wildman. When a traveling circus came to town, the townspeople were shc\ocked to see that the man who owned it had several wildmen (chimps) in captivity. Most probably a species of American chimp.

  • Bottomland chimp (Swamps, hollows and bottomlands of the southren states NA): A chimpanzee-like ape that is reportedly able to swim. Is allegedly hostile when cornered. Most probably a similar animal to the "wildmen" of the Mississippi, possibly the same species altogther.

  • Agropelter (Great Lakes region NA): Most probably mythical, the agropelter is said to be a chimpanzee-like ape, but is strictly carnivorous. According to the folklore of the lumberjacks, they chase their prey, including humans, until they have them cornered then they throw a huge branch or chunk of deadwood at their head, killing them. The emmense strength and hunting technique tallies well with known chimp behavior, so the agropelter may in fact be a northern cousin to the chimp, and possibly the other napes.

  • Honey Island Swamp monster (Honey Island off of Texas NA): Another creature that is often confused as being a sasquatch-like hairy humanoid, the Honey Island Swamp monster actually seems to be more like a chimp or a baboon-like animal. Has long, webbed toes with the outer one apposable, is said to be semi-aquatic and carnivorous. Either some new genus of nape or some kind of baboon, which would make it the only Old World monkey in the New World.

  • Devil monkey (Virginia and nearby states NA): The devil monkey is a piece of local wildlife that is much feared, as the few encounters that have been reported always involve the creature trying to attack the human beings. It is described as a frightening creature that reminds some of a monkey, but more like some sort of demon. The most probable explanation is that devil monkeys are the remnants of an ancient group of primates, the Tarsiids, that once lived across the globe. They were the link between the lower and higher primates, having primitive and advanced features. Devil monkeys could also be an undescribed species of Platyrhine (New World) monkey.

  • Wampus "cat" (Eastern and central states, and the Great Lakes region NA): These creatures are usually described as "bipedal black pantheres", looking like a cross between a human and a panther. Some researchers have suggested that the wampus catsare really primates, being some kind of undescribed platyrhine. It makes sense, becuase wampus cats behave in much the same way as devil monkeys do, and they may be one-in-the-same.

  • Bray Road beast (Bray Road area in Wisonson NA): Another "half man, half beast" creature, the Bray Road beast is described as a classic "werewolf", looking much like a wolf but having a very human like pyshique and stance (bipedal, carries arms like a primate). I am going to suggest, however, that this "werewolf" is infact a primate, much like a wampus "cat". The platyrhine monkeys have an amazing array of variations, some behaving like owls, others like squirrels, some even acting like spiders. If we have owl monkeys, squirrel monkeys, and spider monkeys, cat monkeys and wolf monkeys aren't too far of a stretch. I'll go more in depth to this at some later point in time.

  • Isnachi (Peru SA): A chimp-sized ape reported from the Peruvian mountain forests. Is probably another species of nape, closely related to things like the skunk ape and agropelter. Any more information on this, or other South American apes, is welcome.

  • Tratratratra (Madagascar AFRICA): A giant lemur, the fossils of which are plentiful on Madagascar. It seems that this creature was common when the Malagasys came, but they supposedly wiped it out only a couple hundred years ago. They still strongly believe in it's existence , but most people write this off as "tribal memory", where the memory of the creature is preserved in tribal lore. However, many modern sightings and vividly accurate descriptions of the animal lend this writer to think that perhaps they do in fact still exist.

  • Kooloo-kamba (Cameroons and Gabon AFRICA): An unrecognised species of ape, he kooloo-kamba is supposedly a tird kind of chimpanzee, one which has many different attributes from normal chimps including the ability to walk upright with ease. There was a captive chimp name Oliver who displayed most, if not all, the traits of the kooloo-kamba, but researchers who refused to admit he could be a new species came up with all these obscure reasons how his "strange features" could have been a result of conditioning. DNA tests supposedly proved he was just a chimp, but that's all they did, prove he was a chimp; it didn't show what SPECIES of chimp he is.

  • Ufiti (Malawi AFRICA): A strange, relatively small ape whichresembles an orangutan. One was photographed, and it's skull was preserved, but I have not been able to locate this photo, and the skull was written off as a "deformed chimp". The ufiti looks like an orangutan, except it's colour is a blackish-brown colour, it has long hands with no thumbs, and is smaller even than a pygmy chimpanzee. Most probably an unrecognised species of orang-like ape. Very similar to the skunk ape in appearence, may be related.

  • Pygmy gorilla (Gabon AFRICA): Adult gorillas that are much smaller than normal have been seen on the Gabon coast. Either a pygmy race, like most animals from that area, or a whole new pygmy species. This is where pygmy chimps, pygmy elephants, pygmy crocodiles, and human pygmies come from; why not pygmy gorillas?

  • Giant bushbaby (Ivory Coast and Senegal AFRICA): A giant bushbaby has been reported on occasion from the Ivory Coast and in Senegal. Most deffinitely a new species of bushbaby, much larger than most.

  • Mainland orangutan (Assam, Burma, China and Vietnam ASIA): The orangutan, Asia's largest (known) ape, is known only from the islands of Sumatra and Borneo. However, very orang-like apes are often seen in mainland Asian countries, and it is possible that orangs have survived on mainland Asia. Orangutans used to range across Asia, as fossils show, so why shouldn't they still survive there? Could also be a new species.

  • Yeti (Himalayas and nearby regions): Contrary to popular belief, the yeti is not looked upon as a humanoid, but rather as a giant ape of some kind. Being much larger than a gorilla, the yeti is deffinitely the worlds best known cryptid, more well known under the name of Abomidible Snowman. Either a giant orangutan-like ape, or even a species of Asian gorilla. No matter what, it would be the worlds largest pongid ape. The photo on this page is an alleged yeti hand.

  • Marine primates (Oceans where there are no known sirenians): I highly doubt the existence of any marine primates; quite frankly, that theory doesn't hold any water. The only primate which is close to being marine was Oreopithecus, which lived in mangrove swamps and salt marshes, eating crabs and shellfish. If there are marine primates, they are NOT human-like beauties with long hair and huge breasts; they are more likely to look like some sort of monkey, or even more like a seal. Deffinitely not human-like if they've been adapted to living in the liquid cold of the oceans....
