"Into The Millennium" Concert & Meeting The BSB After
On August 14, 1999, that day I was one of the luckiest BSB fans in the world! I was able to get “Into the Millennium” tour concert tickets! I was so excited! I could hardly wait for the day to arrive. Well, the big day had finally arrived, Thursday, October 14, 1999. My mom, two cousins and myself went to the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, California. We first went to the entrance to sign a huge poster for BSB, which fans could sign and put special messages for the boys. Then we headed to buy some cool BSB merchandise. I spent over $100.00 dollars on cool BSB stuff. I also bought a blue glow stick and a glossy photo of Howie. Around 6:15 p.m., everyone started to line up to get inside when BSB looked out the window! Everyone started freaking out and started taking pictures. Finally, we were let inside and we quickly found our seats.
The lights went dim and the big video screen appeared and showed the Backstreet Boys “Sears Commercial” and of course the crowd went wild. But that was just a teaser because the boys wouldn’t be on for at least another hour. Well, at 7:30, the first opening act was by Mandy Moore, and let me tell you, her performance was amazing! She started out with “So Real”, and finished off with “Candy”. Next, was EYC at 8:00 and their performance was okay, but it didn’t interest me too much, sorry! Finally, the main event came out at exactly 8:40, the BACKSTREET BOYS!
They came down on their “Space Boards” and opened up with “Larger Than Life”. It was so cute because after Nick sang the second verse, he did his little “ninja” thing like in the music video. At the end of that song, fire came out from the stage. After the performance of “Get Down”, the boys came out one by one and said a little something to the audience. A.J. really got the crowd going when he yelled, “What’s up L.A.!?!?” The boys did a medley of “That’s the Way I Like It”, “Everybody
(Backstreet’s Back)” and “We’ve Got It Goin’ On”. The encores were “It’s Gotta Be You” and “I Want It That Way”. My personal favorite performances were “It’s Gotta Be You”, “The One”, “Larger Than Life”, and “Spanish Eyes”. After the concert, we decided we would try to meet the Boys like last time. So, we headed on the freeway to see if maybe BSB’s bus was around somewhere. Well, just by coincidence, we saw their bus up ahead on the side of the road. We slowed down just a bit and waited for the bus to catch up. Then, we followed them right to their hotel. (Sorry fans, but I can’t reveal the name of the hotel or the location for the privacy of the boys!) We immediately got out of the car and ran to the front of the bus. I had solo pictures of each of the boys, the “Millennium” album cover, and the tour program book. Brian had come out first but quickly went into the hotel! Once again, I didn’t meet B-Rok! Oh well. The next boy to come out was Kevin, and my mom talked to him for the longest time! While my mom was busy talking to Kevin, Kayla’s mother, Yvette, kept her distance from Kevin because she was afraid to talk to him. You see, she is in love with him and was afraid to even come close to the love of her life. She couldn’t believe it was the real Kevin Richardson, in person! My cousin and I took a picture with him and he was hugging me so tight! We got him to sign our stuff too! Next, Nick came out with a white undershirt tank top and a khaki fisherman’s hat. I got him to personalize his photo, I got to take a picture with that blonde hair, blue eyed babe AND got to see his new musical note tattoo! Then he was about to go in when my mom said “Nick, can you take a picture with this little one? She loves you so much!” and he said “Sure!” Then he posed with my 8-year-old cousin, Kayla. Then A.J. came out and he looked so cute! But he had to go inside because his bodyguards rushed him in, but he did smile and quickly talked to my mom, but it wasn’t enough time to ask him for an autograph. Oh well. Finally, Howie came out! I went up to him and he signed my glossy photo of him that I got from the concert. Then right when my mom was about to take a picture of Howie and me, I did something every girl would just die to do! I put my head on Howie’s shoulder and then she snapped the photo! It turned out so cute! We waited to see if they would be coming back down but their bus driver told us they would not because they had an early appointment the next morning. That’s when we decided to leave the hotel.
