The Backstreet Boys and Shaggy will be presenting for Top Forty radio in a big way this summer. “We have a huge video screen—it’s the largest that’s ever been used
,” says BSB Kevin Richardson, before recalling U2’s Pop Mart Tour. “Oh, no, wait. It’s not bigger than that. But it’s big.” The boys met Shaggy back in ’95 when they were touring in Europe. “We did festivals with Shaggy when we first cam out,” Richardson says. “We thought he’d be a great person to bring out on the road. His music fits right in with our genre.” Expect two hours of teen-pop pyrotechnics, i.e., quasilewd synchronized gyrating, hightech headsets, outer-space lighting, and costumes only a mother (and her 11 year old daughter) could love. Says Richardson, “We think people are really going to get their money’s worth.”
