1969 - This picture appeared in the news paper shortly after the ladder truck was placed in Fort George Park as a recreational item for children to play on. The truck was the second truck that the City purchased for the Fire Department in the face of strong opposition from Fire Chief A. Dornbierer. The $16,000.00 truck was never used because it was too large to park in the existing fire hall (then located on George Street across from where P.G. Men's Wear is presently located). Today it remains in the Park and has been a favorite of countless children over the years. In 1999 the truck was removed temporarily for work to be done to make it safer for children to play on.
