This is a legend, told by the Dragons, therefore there's no proof that it all happened that way. But who knows, sometimes there's a touch of truth in these old legends...
It was in a time long, long ago. Way before the first bonding between a Dragon and a human, at a time when Pashe-Ki hardly ever came to kill (they were mere animals in this time, killing only to survive). In this time, there was a lesser variety of dragons in the world. Among others, no purple dragon existed.
One day then a young dragon was born who seemed to be quite special in her way of attracting dangers.
Already the way she was born was special. All other dragons from his clutch were hatched for as while, his egg was the only one left. Therefore her mother took hold in that egg, to see if there was a dragon inside, or if it was a dead egg, and just while she was holding it up to inspect it, she hatched, and that way started her life with a fall down out the air.
In her first time, there wasn't much special about her - apart from her attraction of dangers and maybe her size, as she always was way smaller than his siblings.
She fell down from every possible place, stumbled in the way of every big animal (and all grown up dragons), was missed by an avalanche for a few centimeters, but always survived unharmed.
That way she grew up. Her learning to fly caused her mother more than trouble (she tended to forget how to move her wings in the right way when being up in the air, fell down to nearly ground and when she was nearly touching the ground suddenly started moving her wings again). Still she never got injured.
So the first time that she was allowed to fly on his own came. Her mother was already a nervous wrack when thinking of that day, but she couldn't keep her away from flying. Every dragon had to make a flight of his own when reaching teenage age.
So she went away. The hours passed by and yet his mother didn't hear any news about a young dragon being crashed with a mountain, or fallen down into the sea, so she got a bit lighthearted. Maybe she would come back safe anyhow, she started to hope.
Then an urgent message was told between all dragons. A thunderstorm is coming! We advise all dragon to immediately return to their homecoves! Repeat! Return to your homecaves to find shelter for a thunderstorm is coming!
Soon the coves were filled by dragons. One after the other returned. It was already getting dark, when they realised that one young dragon was still missing. I don't think it's hard to guess which one... Her mother had still the hope she might have found a shelter somewhere else, when the thunderstorm broke free.
Suddenly she saw, at a lightning, a small creature flying in the air, midst of thunder and lightning. Could it be? She waited for the next lightning, and when it cracked, she was sure. It was her little daughter! She had returned to the caves, but too late. Could it be possible for her to come through the lightnings and return home safe, as she returned home so often?!
Just when she had thought this, filling her heart with a slight hope, suddenly another lightning struck down and hit the young dragon. She fell to the ground, every dragon in the caves crying with fear.
As long as the thunderstorm waas going on, there wasn't much they could do, but as soon as it moved away, his mother and some other courageous dragons went out of the caves to see her, asuming her to be dead.
But to their great surprise, they founds her alive, just trying to get back to her feet again when they reached him. She only seemed to be burned by the lightning a bit, as her colour was a strange purple now, never seen on a dragon before.
Her mother was just bowing down to her to inspect if she really wasn't injured when suddenly a ligthning struck.
All dragons stoppped in fear. Where does it come from?
Another lightning struck. This time a dragon had seen where it came from, it was coming out of the young dragon!
Are you doing it? He asked.
I..I don't know, the young dragon stumbled. It seems to be coming from me, somehow..
We can't let you among us as long as you can't control that! Go away now and don't come back as long as you mean danger to all of us! That were the words of the leading dragon.
The young dragon obeyed and sad went away. How could she control something she never knew would be possible? She never made anything right. Maybe it would be better if she just died...
But then another thought struck him. If, just if she could control this power, wouldn't it be a wonderful weapon to hunt and to defend? Wouldn't they all be glad to have her then?!
A bit more lighthearted she started practising. Several burned trees and rocks later she found himself able to control this strange power inside him. She returned to the others as quick as her wings would carry him.
First the eldest dragons struggled in disbelieve, but she burned the shadow of a dragon in a rock, and then they were just too eager to believe!
This was definitely a great power, and way useful for them!
Some days of happy hunting followed, in which several dragons discovered how great roasted food could taste, when suddenly she didn't have any struck of lightning within himself anymore. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't let out anymore of them. Some dragons were just as sad as she was, others felt quite content with the return of the old way.
Only our little dragon was feeling more than useless now again. How could she get back this power?
Finally she had an idea, and had just to wait till it was possible to test it out.
Some weeks later her chance had come. Another thunderstorm was reaching them, and under the surprised watchs of the other dragon, she left the cave and flew into it, somehow chasing the lightnings, till she got struck by one, then another, and still more.
At the end of the thunderstorm she tried out, and really, she had the power of lightnings back!
From this time on, she collected lightnings in every single thunderstorm, and so did some of her children which were born in the same colour than she was. And that's just what's happening in the Ekauni Storm Festival for the dragons. They all do remember this first dragon who collected lightnings for them.
