"Spirit Folk" has it all: comedy, romance, suspense... a cow... I liked this 'sequel' to "Fair Haven" much better than the original.
The scene where the Fair Haven villagers throw a red net over Tom and Harry and rush them off to the church was pure gold. They looked hilarious struggling under that net. The Doctor 'caving in' under hypnosis was also a great scene.
When Michael begins asking too many questions and Janeway ends the program, wouldn't there be other crewmembers left standing in the empty holodeck? I thought an 'open door' policy was initiated. Surely Janeway wasn't the only one using the Fair Haven program at that time.
Near the end of the episode, Tuvok comments that the townspeople are piling kindling at the bases of three lamposts. How do they know this? I thought they had no communication with the holodeck. Can they see everything that's happening? If so, how come they weren't aware of Michael putting on The Doctor's holoemitter and transporting to the bridge? Just wondering...
Bottom Line: A classic feel-gooder

I really liked this episode, it was a fun holodeck romp.
I liked the scene where Tom played a practical joke on Harry by turning his holodeck sweetheart into a very cute cow. There were a couple cute lines...
Harry: "I could have been trampled." (When Tom turned Maggie into a cow)
Harry: "What about Maggie?"
Tom: "She'll be fine. Let her graze." (When the duo had to leave the program)
I also liked the scene where the Doctor is giving his "angry" sermon, and the parishoners are making comments like: "He's in love with the sound of his own voice." and "Maybe he's been dipping into the sacremental wine." Funny!
The scene where Tom and Harry take Michael (Janeway's boyfriend) into the lab to fix him was fun.
Then Janeway started to get on my nerves... The holodeck program was having trouble, and Tom and Harry had been captured by the villagers. The holodeck safeties were off and the characters were threatening to kill the two. "Well, let's just pull the plug: cut power to the hologrid," suggested B'Elanna. The Captain wanted to save the program at all costs. "With all due respect Captain, Michael can be reprogrammed, Tom and Harry can't," B'Elanna said. The Captain retalliated with: "One problem at a time, B'Elanna. The people of Fair Haven may not be real but our feelings for them are. I won't destroy these relationships if we can find another way." The Captain was being extremely selfish on this one. I totally agree with B'Elanna.
Then the Captain proceeded to find her little scapegoat: the Doctor. She sent him on a mission to save the duo. Thank goodness for Seven, who was the only one who seemed to care about the Doctor. She said, "I suggest you use your mobile emitter. It will isolate you from the malfunctions."
More cute scenes followed... The Doctor screamed "SINNERS" to the townspeople! Once the Fair Haven folk captured the Doctor, they hypnotised him and tried to ask him things. "If you can get a spirit to reveal his true name, you'll render yourself impervious to his charms. What is your name?" The Doctor replied, "I haven't decided on one yet." It was great!
To stop the altercation on the holodeck, the Captain basically lied to Michael and the rest of the townsfolk by saying that Voyager's crew was from a different time frame. Pathetic. Either tell them the truth -- that they're holograms, or reprogram them! ITS A HOLODECK PROGRAM!! Janeway seems to have lost it once again. If she thinks that this redeems herself or makes her relationship with Michael more real, she is wrong.
Finally, she said to Tom, B'Elanna, and the Doctor, "Before we shut down the program and begin repairs, what do you say to one more round at Sullivans?" At this comment, B'Elanna looks totally enraged, probably because she's the one who has to fix all the holodeck problems. The Doctor and Tom don't look that thrilled either. I bet that they are thinking that Janeway is pretty selfish too...
Okay, even though Captain Janeway got me angry, I still really enjoyed the show!
