I liked the end payoff of “Pathfinder”, but to get there, I was forced to endure over half an hour of annoying stuttering from Barclay. At times I found it to be almost unbearable. I sat there cringing as Barclay squeezed out statements at a snail’s pace.
Okay... Take a close look at the photograph of Tom sitting on Admiral Paris’ desk. In the first shot it is flipped, with Tom’s commbadge being on the wrong side of his uniform. Then, in the next shot it is correct. Just a weird tidbit I thought I’d share.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t The Doctor become well enough acquainted with Barclay in “Projections” to remember him? I know it was just a simulation, but The Doctor retained his memories of Kes as his wife, so why wouldn’t he remember Lieutenant Barclay, who said he was from Starfleet and had even helped to create his program?
I felt that too much time was spent establishing Barclay’s relationship with Deanna and his bout with holoaddiction. It isn’t Star Trek: Barclay, people!
Bottom Line: A lot of fluff, but it left me crying tears of joy

I really think that the powers that be really messed up on this one. As with “Fury” they took what could have had the potential of being a superb episode and missed the boat. The writers took so much time focusing on Reg Barklay and Deanna Troi that they forgot to spend much time with the crew of Voyager and the incredible event of them finally speaking with the people from home. This is supposed to be Star Trek: Voyager not Star Trek: The Next Generation Revisited. Don’t get me wrong, I loved TNG, but I’ve moved on to Voyager now, and wanted to see more reactions from the crew in this momentous event A measly five minutes is not enough for me.
The little scene with Seven terminating the singing lessons with Neelix was cute
I felt that Tom should have been able to say a quick “hi” to his dad. It would only have taken a second…
I found it hard to believe that Barklay would have been able to pinpoint the location of Voyager considering that since “Message in A Bottle”, the crew has been stopped in space while having been taken over by the Hirogen for an extended period of time, went off course to capture the Omega molecule, traveled around extensively (to Borg Space and back) with slipstream technology, went through a Borg transwarp conduit, traveled in the subspace corridors of the Vadwar, among other events!
Doesn’t the Doctor remember Barklay from “Projections”? Hello?!
I know that Voyager got some higher ratings from this episode by bringing two old characters back, but I can’t help feeling ripped off in the emotion department. :(
