Janeway’s attitude in Fair Haven really bothered me. First of all, all her little sayings got on my nerves. She started with, “Let’s batten down the hatches,” and proceeded to use, “I’m just burning the midnight oil,” “At the first bolt of lightening I bolt out of the bed,” and, “Fair Haven has become our port in the storm.” For some reason, each of these annoyed me. I almost lost my dinner when Michael and Janeway were arm wrestling and he suggested calling it a draw. Janeway’s, “Sound’s good to me!” was extremely irritating.
I like how Seven sat down to eat with Tuvok in the Mess Hall. It’s nice to see them becoming friends.
Tom had a few hilarious lines: the one about The Doctor visiting a monastery and taking a vow of silence, and the Tuvok-barometer comment. (“You’d make a good barometer, Tuvok. Every time you get queasy, we go to red alert!”)
Okay… Chakotay’s hologram comment?? “I’ve never let that stop me…” Stop him from doing what? On second thought, I’d actually rather not know.
Bottom Line: Tom’s charm and The Doc’s good looks outweigh Janeway’s distasteful mannerisms.

I felt that this episode was a pleasant feeling one. The Fair Haven Irish village seemed like a nice enough place, with plenty of fun things to do. Tom Paris definitely has a knack for creating fun holodeck programs.
It was cute to see the Doctor playing the town’s priest and wearing the black robes!
Tuvok’s Space Sickness scene in the mess hall was amusing. Tom describing the setting for a meditation site, while Harry made hand gestures describing Tom’s words was pretty funny. Then Neelix coming by to talk about coagulating sheep blood was the final straw for poor Tuvok as Seven looked on in amusement
One question I had was why, in the first three times that Janeway meets Michael, he doesn’t know her? Did she program it that way? Every other character seems to remember their interactions with the crew….
I don’t know, Janeway having to resort for a relationship with a hologram lover seems pretty lame. I can see where people may use holograms for companionship or for certain physical releases, but getting involved with one seems emotionally dangerous. Remember in TNG: Barkley’s holoaddiction or even Geordi’s embarrassing problem with the scientist Leah Brahms (?). I think that falling in love and having deep emotions tied to a non-sentient being is not a good idea. I believe that even having a relationship with one of the Captains subordinates is better than this. Even by the Captain denying herself access to change the Michael Sullivan program any further, it is a poor substitute for the real flesh and blood thing. And besides, Chakotay is far better looking than Michael any day!! By the way, when I talk about having relationships with holograms, I do not include the Doctor in this category. He IS sentient and has six good years of growing behind him. He has a holo-emitter that allows him to go anywhere, and according to the ep “Blink of an Eye”, he has somehow found a way to have children. He’s ready for Seven anytime now! ;)
My favorite quote of the episode was Tom saying, “You’d make a good barometer, Tuvok. Every time you get queasy, we go to red alert!” Tom always has the funny quips!
All in all, Fair Haven was a well-spent hour.
