WWE ECW

WWE ECW

January 15, 2008 – Recap by Sassy

ECW is being broadcast from Birmingham, AL

on the Sci-Fi Network

Ringside announcers: Joey Styles and Tazz

Ring announcer: Tony Chimel

The Rated R Superstar, Edge, makes his first appearance on ECW for The Cutting Edge. Styles gives the audience a rundown of Edge’s relationship with the General Manager of Friday Night Smackdown.

Edge gets the same type of fan reaction here as he does on Smackdown. It’s called negative. Edge is here to plug The Royal Rumble where he will defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Rey Mysterio. Edge shows everyone a replay of the match between Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero. Mysterio won the match but Edge and his Edgeheads beat down Mysterio after the match.

Edge has come to ECW to invite CM Punk to The Cutting Edge. We can only hope that Punk takes Edge’s mic and…well, this IS a family oriented website.  We will let you use your imagination.

CM Punk enters the ring. Edge welcomes Punk to the show and Punk thanks Edge for inviting him. Edge tells Punk he reminds him a lot of himself – a Punk version of Edge. Edge congratulates Punk for becoming the ECW Champion and then asks him who he has really beaten? He wants to know what Punk would do if Guerrero challenges Punk again for the title. Punk says he respects his opponents and even though he has beat Chavo two weeks in a row, he would accept a challenge from Chavo. Punk tells Edge he could beat Chavo again and that he could beat Edge too. The audience responds with chants of “CM Punk”. Edge looks a little surprised that Punk believes he can beat Edge in a match. Punk tells Edge that he this isn’t Smackdown, this is ECW, Punk’s show.

Chavo Guerrero’s entrance theme begins and Chavo enters the ring. Chavo tells Punk that if Chavo beats Punk that Chavo would get a title shot. He challenges Punk for a match tonight. Punk says they had this conversation a week ago and that they will probably be here next week having the same conversation after he beats Chavo a third time. Punk is attacked by Edge from behind and then Chavo enters the fray. Both of them take turns slamming Punk’s shoulder into the ring post and Punk is down on the mat.

And we have a replay of the beat down Punk just suffered at the hands of Edge and Chavo.

Unless WWE is planning on dumping ECW and adding Punk to Smackdown or Raw, I don’t see the point of this entire Cutting Edge…

Commercial break.

Back from commercial break, promo for WWE Armageddon DVD available now.

Styles and Tazz narrate a replay of the attack on CM Punk that occurred before the commercial break.

Edge is backstage heading for the exit.

Tag Team Match

John Morrison from Los Angeles, CA, weighing 220 lbs.

&

The Miz from Cleveland, OH, weighing 231 lbs.

WWE Tag Team Champions

Vs.

Robbie

&

Rory

The Highlanders at a combined weight of 463 lbs.

Audience favorites: I’m not sure

My favorites: The Highlanders and John Morrison

Styles tell the audience that The Highlanders are making their ECW debut. I don’t believe The Highlanders have ever gotten any kind of a push in WWE. This match doesn’t look like it will be any different. The Highlanders do work well as a tag team. Unfortunately for them, they lose the match when Rory is pinned by Miz.

Winners: John Morrison & The Miz

While I enjoyed watching The Highlanders, I couldn’t help but notice most of the live audience was giving the thumbs down to Morrison and Miz after the match.

Styles reminds the audience tonight will be CM Punk versus Chavo Guerrero.

Promo for Kofi Kingston.

Commercial break.

Back from commercial break, replay of the dance contest last week on ECW with Kelly Kelly, Layla and Lena Yada. Lena won the competition even though I thought Layla should have been the winner.

Kelly Kelly enters the ring in boots and a robe. Definitely not wrestling attire. Kelly tells the audience that next week it will be high definition and there will be a competition on which diva has the best body. Kelly takes off her robe to show a scanty bathing suit. Next week in HD, it will be the Best Body Contest between Kelly, Layla and Lena. I can hardly wait.

Tazz is in the ring with poor bandaged Colin Delaney.  Colin and Shark Boy from TNA must be related. I believe they have the same number of bandages. Tazz reminds the audience that Colin first faced Shelton Benjamin, then Big Daddy V, and last week The World’s Strongest Man Mark Henry.

This week, Colin Delaney will face Kane.

Colin Delaney (who should be busy making out his will)

Vs.

Kane

Audience favorite: I’m not sure

My favorite: I like them both

I think Colin is about half the size of Kane and he doesn’t have a chance. A boot by Kane, a couple of squashes, a side slam, and a choke slam (Kane has to pick Colin up off the mat to deliver the choke slam) and it’s all over.

Winner: Kane

Replay of the extremely short match that was just telecast. And we have two refs in the ring trying to figure out just how bad off Colin is after the beat down by Kane.

NOTE: According to Internet rumor, Delaney was not the first choice for this particular role. Pepper Parks was originally chosen, but it was decided that he was too large for the role so it went to Delaney instead.

CM Punk is backstage with an ice pack on his injured shoulder, courtesy of Chavo and Edge at the beginning of the telecast. Armando Estrada wants to know if Punk will be able to face Chavo tonight. Punk says that he will be there.

Replay of the end of the battle on Monday Night Raw between Jeff Hardy, WWE Intercontinental Champion, and Randy Orton, WWE Champion. If you missed this match, Jeff Hardy was awesome. Styles informs the audience he will have an update on both wrestlers.

Commercial break.

Back from commercial break, replay of the battle between Jeff and Orton again. It wasn’t actually a match since Orton got himself disqualified the second the bell rang with a low blow to Jeff. Jeff Hardy delivered one spectacular Swanton off of a metal tower onto Orton. Jeff did say he was going to take Orton out. He wasn’t kidding.

Styles says that Orton was kept overnight at a clinic but Jeff got up and “staggered” out. Styles said it was a 30 foot-Swanton.  Whoa. Jeff will face Orton at the Royal Rumble for the WWE Championship.

Styles and Tazz give the audience a rundown of the action scheduled for The Royal Rumble. To get the latest on the matches, go to www.wwe.com.

Shelton Benjamin from Orangeburg, SC, weighing 248 lbs.

Vs.

Nunzio from NY, weighing 175 lbs.

Audience favorite: I’m not sure

My favorite: I like them both

I don’t know about the rest of the ECW viewing audience but I am tired of seeing Nunzio getting beat to a pulp in every match he is in. Nunzio can work in the ring and it is beyond me why WWE continues to send him into matches that don’t allow him to work the ring.

Winner: Shelton Benjamin

Styles reminds the audience about the match tonight between CM Punk and Chavo Guerrero

Promo for WWE HD next Tuesday on ECW

Commercial break.

Back from commercial break.

Main Event

CM Punk from Chicago, IL, weighing 225 lbs.

ECW Champion

CM Punk enters the ring still holding his shoulder as Styles shows the audience a replay of the damage inflicted to Punk’s shoulder by Chavo and Edge earlier in the evening.

Chavo Guerrero from El Paso, TX, weighing 215 lbs.

Audience favorite: CM Punk

My favorite: I like them both

Before the match can begin, Edge enters the arena and heads to the announcer’s table. Edge is becoming a guest announcer on every WWE show. And instead of Styles and Tazz calling the match in the ring, we hear Edge talk about Edge and how great he is. Chavo ends up on the floor outside the ring and we go to

COMMERCIAL BREAK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MATCH!

AND THE MAIN EVENT NO LESS!

Back from commercial break, promo for next week’s Monday Night Raw, in HD.

Both contestants are back in the ring. Edge, Styles and Tazz discuss the attack on Punk by Chavo and Edge during The Cutting Edge. In the ring Punk delivers a boot to Chavo’s head. Chavo is back to his feet and he delivers a drop kick to Punk. Chavo works on the injured shoulder of Punk while Tazz is telling Edge he should come by the show more often to sit at the announcer’s table. Is Edge giving up wrestling for announcing? He has spent more time working his jaw muscles than any other muscle in his body in the last few weeks. The audience is chanting CM Punk as Punk gets back to his feet, but Chavo takes him back down to the mat to go for a pin but he doesn’t get the three count. Chavo applies a cross arm breaker but Punk is working his way back up. He gets Chavo’s shoulders down but only gets a two count. Punk is back down on the mat and Chavo is again working on Punk’s shoulder. And Edge is still running off at the mouth at the announcer’s table. Punk gets Chavo’s shoulders down again but can’t get the win. Punk goes to work with his feet and knees on Chavo and the audience is behind Punk. Punk tries to climb up to the top turnbuckle with one arm but Chavo sends Punk out to the floor and then Edge, who can’t seem to get in the ring to do anything, attacks Punk outside the ring –behind the ref’s match of course. Punk is down on the floor and the ref is counting. Punk doesn’t make it back into the ring and is counted out, giving Chavo the win and a chance at the ECW Championship.

Winner: Chavo Guerrero

with a lot of help from WWE Heavyweight Champion, Edge

And that’s the end of the show.
