The force is the great and powerful ally of all Jedi. A jedi uses and controls the force through trial and error; it is a hard thing to do, but rewarding. All living things nuture the force, and so by controlling the force you control them. It is present throughout the entire galaxy, in everything and everyone. And of the dark side? The force does not know it is serving good, or it is serving evil. It does not understand such things. The force is merely controled and ordered by the user to serve good or evil. To harness the powers of the force, you must be in touch with it's flow; feel it flowing through you. Think of it as a river that flows through every atom of the galaxy. When a person can feel the thoughts and emotions of every thing around him, feel that he is in control of a great force, he can say that he is a Jedi.
The Jedi are not always a logical people; they learn to match logic with emotion and feeling. A Jedi knows that they are not in one place; they can feel the force through every system and galaxy. He must battle to not stray towards evil; though. Through meditation a Jedi increases his internal awareness. It always them to expand their mind, and feel the force more fully.
Where did the force come from? Force came from life, and life depends on the force. For a long time, the force was forgotten and forsaken by living beings, who decided to depend on technology. Then came the Jedi; who left the technology for knowledge of the force. They studied the force; and discovered that they could command it and use it for good. They tried to bring peace to the galaxy. However, with the Jedi striving for good came people who wanted to use it for evil. When they discovered they could; then came the dark jedi.
The light side is the side of the force that is bound with life itself. Peace, harmony and knowledge are the rewards of the light side. The virtues required for the light side are patience, humility and self sacrifice. The dark side is a twisted form of the light side which brings hate and descruction. It brings chaos, rage, power. Both sides are required to bring balance to the universe.
