1. The district needs to recognize that textbook
inventory control is important
2. The textbook coordinator must have time to
learn the rules and to do the job.
3. There must be a system (manual or computer
driven) that
keeps up with all of the textbooks in the
district.
4. The district and campus adminstration must
understand that "free" textbooks are not free.
5. The textbook coordinator must have access
to accurate student enrollment data on demand.
6. The textbook coordinator must have direct support
from the Superintendent when textbook issues
arise.
7. A good textbook coordinator needs to know
who to call for help( TEA or other textbook
coordinators).
What is the most
important single factor in textbook
accountability?
The local school district Superintendent must hold that the ultimate
responsibility for textbooks on the campus principal.
When a campus knows that regardless of why or
who actually
loses a textbook, the campus will take greater
efforts to manage their own textbook inventory.
If a district ever lets campus know that relief
will come from central adminstration, the effort
to monitor the textbook inventory decreases.
Does TEA offer training to
new textbook coordinators?
TEA provide an excellant manual for coordinators.
It is very important that every coordinator has
one. This manual can be downloaded from the TEA we site. TEA at one time had training sessions at
Regional Service Centers. In addition TEA is always invited to make presentations at the annual TCAT
conference.
What is
EMAT????
EMAT is a new system that TEA has created for
textbook coordinators to order textbooks, to
review the status of orders, and access district
textbook charges. Internet access is required
along with passwords from TEA. It is a new system
and we only hope it gets better.
