2000 HUNTING SEASON

APRIL TURKEY

Link not active - see photos below.

Hunting at Wayne and Diane's in Washington is always a blast and this Spring was no exception. Kris and Jeryl came up from the coast and Kris scored on this nice bird. He and I were 20 feet apart - him with the gun and me with video camera - and I never even knew it was approaching. My first clue was the shotgun blast. Needless to say, I didn't get it on film.

.....

Just a half mile from the house, I came across 4 jakes about to cross the road. I managed a couple quick pictures but had to use a slow shutter speed. I took one with 2 of the turkeys gobbling which would have been really cool but unfortunately it came out blurry.

SEPTEMBER WHITETAIL

For now, just a few details without trying to polish the story at all:

I had been watching quite a number of deer all summer and was really eager for the season to arrive. The habitat consisted of a fair sized hay farm (4 or 500 acres) with irregular fields, bounded along the east side by a meandering river and a forested hill on the south. The evening I shot this guy, I watched him come out via his usual path and set up to intercept him as he fed toward me. All the real figuring had been done weeks in advance and I simply took advantage of the pattern he had established for himself. The shot distance was about 100 yards and he dropped in his tracks from the 7mm mag bullet. At the time, there were 25 deer in the field, including 5 more smaller bucks.

The picture on the left is the same buck about mid August.
