Yahoo and CheetaChat Info
Alright. First step in role playing is getting the system. Sure, you can simply goto Yahoo.com, wait for the java crap to load and chat from there. But, if you're serious about it, try cheetachatt out for size. It is seriously sweet. Lotsa options like graphics(avatars), text color blends, macros, emotions... Its perfect for the ideal night of Role Play! I've got a simple list of steps for you to get cheetachat. Trust me, you'll love it!
Goto Cheetachat.com and simply follow the instructions there to download it. Its really easy.
Goto Yahoo.com (also known as yahell) and if you don't already have one, make up a new character and a nice profile to go with it.
Get your cheetachat up and running with lala easy installation! Ta-da!
Login with your Yahoo login name and password.
Bam, you are officially ic... yeah. So, how to use it? Well, now...
Layout of CheetaChat:
The symbols are hardest to get, which aren't too hard at all. These appear at the very top of the screen when using cheetachat, if you have the latest version. (I've found that some people that have later versions do not have the same options as people with newer.) Most of these buttons at the top are self exclamatory. So, don't worry about em all too much. The only one that I've found people to get confused on, are the fade text options and the option of having an avatar, or a small picture in front of your text.
To Fade Text: Go to the small button near the very top of your screen where there is a small color palette (what painters use, doh!) and click on it. There are three lines of colors. Now all you do is simply toggle the colors to a fade which you like using the Add button. If there's a color you don't like, click on the number that shows up on the right side (its the color code) and hit Remove. Poof! Its gone! Now, if there's a color blend you really like, save it. Otherwise when you push delete to remove the settings, its gone for good.
To Obtain A Cool Avatar: Go to the words 'Settings' at the top of your screen. It will bring up a small menu with a list of options. Go to Preferences. Then there is another box that pops up. Goto the tab that reads CheetaChat/Yahoo. At the bottom of the box now, there is a small section with avatar options. The default ones are stupid, I think. To get good avatars, you need to surf the role playing rooms. Different people have different avatars. Lotsa people use the same ones, so don't be afraid to steal them. As soon as you see an avatar (and sometimes even when you don't, the picture is automatically saved in your 'custom' avatar files.) To get a custom avatar, click the dot over custom and it gives you examples of the ones you have, then you just pick anyone you want!
Abreviations are really important sometimes. If someone is IC they are In Chat. This means that they are playing their character. They are speaking to your character from theirs. When you are OOC it means you are Out Of Chat. When you speak to someone OOC, everything you say is personal opinions, not of your character. (Some people insult other's characters while OOC. This is stupid, yet a seemingly 'safe haven' for some. They do this to keep their character from being killed. Its totally unhonorable.) IRL simply means In Real Life, which, of course, means you are refering to something that has truly happened in life. AFK means Away From Keyboard. I wonder when you say you are afk...haha. KFC well, you should know this one! Kentucky Fried Chicken, doh! The other simple abreviations like avy(for avatar), cchat(for CheetaChat) or char(for character) are really simple and if I have to explain them to you... I think Role Playing might be out of your league. Try golf.
Profile Importance can save your character's very life. At first when you start role playing, you can just get used to things, see how you like it. If you happen to like to fight... which I do, you might want to detail your profile. You detail your yahoo character profile for your own referance as well as other role players. For example: You are in a fight and your weapon is a battle axe(go figure) and it does a special attack. Say you do this 'special attack' on someone. Well, if it came straight out of the blue, they'll argue it until you wanna just forfit. I know cause I've been there. So, what I did was mention something about my axe able to preform a certain special move if I need it to. I wasn't too specific, so I wouldn't give my attack away, but just to let people know. Another thing that will help you when it comes to fights are 'intros'. This is a macro(a pre-typed action) for your character to describe that character as they enter the room/glade/tavern/whatever. They can be very detailed, or a few mere words. It all depends how you write it. This gives everyone an idea of what you look like and what you possibly could be like. Remember: Looks Can Be Decieving!!!
Typing Uses are easy once you become familiar with them. It becomes habit even! So, I'll write some examples here...:
mercedalies
says, "Hi, my name is mercedalies... but you can call me mercedies, if you'd like."
- Here is regular speech. This is what happens when you just type a regular sentence and hit enter.
mercedalies
walks into the room quietly, her hair lying on her shoulders pleasantly and her legs giving off a slight metalic shimmer since she is, of course, a mermaid
- That is an action. Notice that the words come directly from the character, no 'says'. To to this, type a : and then the action that you wish to perform.
- Ex: :walks into the room quietly, her hair lying on her shoulders pleasantly and her legs giving off a slight metalic shimmer since she is, of course, a mermaid
mercedalies
. o O ( Hey, guess what happened today IRL? )
Now, this one gets ppl confuzzled. Its really actually easy. All you do is type /think before what you want to say. (Thought bubbles are usually for either OOC comments or for discussing actions IC)
Ex: /think Hey, guess what happened today IRL?
