Chapter 7
Kentucky?! I don't KNOW anyone in Kentucky! That was the first thought that passed
through her mind once she was conscious again. Instead of seeing Mike watching her,
Litt was surprised to find Amber there.
She smiled down at her. "Well hello,
Sunshine. How are you feeling?"
Litt made a face. "I feel like shit."
Amber nodded in understanding. "I got Mike to tell me what had happened."
"Did he tell you what's going to happen to me?" she formed the words slowly, trying to
relieve herself of the throbbing pain in her head.
She frowned and shook her
head. "No, I didn't have time to ask."
"I'm being moved to Kentucky," she
mumbled angrily.
Amber's eyes went wide. "Kentucky?! What the hell?! I'll
never see you!"
"I know. It's gonna suck. But hey, it'll only be for a year..." Litt
tried to be optimistic, but it didn't help her mood any.
She laughed and shook
her head. "Yeah, that's true. God, but what's in Kentucky?"
Litt shrugged. "I
guess I'm gonna find out, huh?"
Suddenly her eyes brightened. "Hey, maybe I
can come visit you!"
She smiled and nodded. "That'd be awesome." Then she
groaned. "Geez, haven't these people ever heard of DRUGS?! I feel like shit!" "Here
lemme get a nurse or something."
"No, just leave her," Mike said as he walked
in. "She's been given enough already."
Litt's eyes grew big. "God, if this is how
it feels WITH the pain killers, I don't wanna know how it feels WITHOUT them!"
"Amber, it's time for you to go home. She needs to get as much rest as
possible," Mike told her.
She nodded. "Alright well, I'll see you later, Litt.
Hopefully you'll feel better!"
Once she had shut the door behind her, Mike
looked down at Litt. "Well, you'll be out in a few days, so by Sunday you should be fit
enough to get on a plane."
"Mike, why the hell did you choose KENTUCKY,
man?" she whined. "I don't KNOW anyone there."
"Exactly."
"So
you want me to be a loner," she stated.
"It's a perfect chance for you to start
over. A new household, new surroundings, new people. Think of it this way, no one
knows YOU. When you get over there, you can be a whole new person if you so choose,"
he looked down at her hopefully. "Do you see my reasoning?"
Litt let out a
long sigh. "I guess. But what part of Kentucky? I've lived in the city all my life."
"Well, you're going to the biggest place there, Lexington."
"Hmmm...And what
kind of people am I living with?"
"Two friends of mine, Bill and Tracy, with
their two kids Jonathan and Tess. Tess is eighteen and a senior, and Jon is twelve and in
seventh grade."
Litt nodded to herself. Well, this might not be THAT bad...she
thought. And he's right, I guess. This is my chance at a whole new life...a clean life.
"Well?" Mike broke into her thoughts. She looked up at him. "Well...it doesn't
sound THAT bad. Do you mind if Amber comes to visit me sometime?" she asked
hopefully.
"I don't see a problem with it."
"Good. Now, where are
the drugs?! The pain is almost nauseating!" she complained.
He shook his
head and left the room.
"Where are you going?" Litt called after him.
"Good night, Litt. I'll see you tomorrow."
"But what about my
PAIN?! I need a nurse!" she shouted as loud as she could, but someone just told her to
shut up and closed the door.
