Chapter Two
A week went by quickly as I spent every day as I had when I had met Nick at
the park. I practiced nearly 24/7 and with one meal a day. I was amazed with
my self I had lost a little weight and made some into muscle. When the day
finally came I was so nervous that I couldn't eat anything even the one meal
I allowed my self I still couldn't eat. Only being sixteen (without a
driver's license or a learner's permit) I found my self sitting in the
backseat of my mom's mini van with Nicole beside me rambling on about
something I was too nervous to think of any thing other than the dance
routines. "Well, here we are. Good luck girls, or should I say break a leg!"
My mother's perky voice drifted towards me as she pulled up to the dance
studio.
"It looks like someone big is here. Hey Sam, go jump in front of that
camera!" Nicole said giving me a push out of the car door. As I was pushed
out the car door I noticed with my expert observing skills the millions of
cameras and reporters there at the dance studio. Nicole popped out of the
backseat with both our bags slung over her shoulder yelling, "I'm here!" At
that point I was so nervous but you can always count on Nicole to make you
laugh and forget your problems.
"Okay miss hyperactive where's my bag" I laughed grabbing Nicole before she
could jump in front of a camera yelling "So how you doing?" and giving the
camera man the elevator look. You know the one that starts at the feet and
goes up. Yeah that one. Nicole finally gave me my bag after a couple of tugs
here and a push there. We headed for the dressing room to get ready for the
biggest day of our lives.
"Fatima is probably here. That's why all the reporters are out there." I
spoke to Nicole with my head deep inside my bag trying to find my black Capri.
"Who is Fatima? I mean I have never heard of her. And I don't know why we
must try out for such an obvious position. I will be the one picked and
everyone knows it." I could tell who it was without even looking up. Krista
Vassali the snootiest girl in the world, who couldn't dance worth crap even
if her life depended on it, but she believed her looks, could get her any
part she wanted. I didn't even try to answer or acknowledge Krista I mean no
matter what I said or did it wouldn't help at all. I just rolled my eyes and
pulled on my Capris.
"Ohmygod! Ohmygod! Did you guys see whose here?" Ashleigh Baxtor rushed
through the door from the studio with her hands flying all over the place.
Ashleigh was always overreacting so nobody really jumped to see what she was
talking about.
"No Ashleigh we didn't see whose out there?" I asked not even looking up from
lacing up my blochs. I was probably the only one paying any attention to her
at all.
"The Backstreet Boys they're out there. I don't know why but they're out
there!!!" Ashleigh screamed and jumped like a jumping bean. The dressing room
went crazy as all 35 of us started to imitate Ashleigh. We must of all felt
like a bunch of teenyboppers because we got in a crowd and huddled around the
door and opened it to get a sneak at the guys. And there they were standing
near the far wall. A bunch of squeals and screams escaped our mouths, mine
included, and they must have heard it because all five of them turn towards
us and smiled. That was when we noticed how stupid we were being and shut the
door quickly but not that gracefully for we all were still in a clump and
fell towards the floor with a domino effect. We all laughed at ourselves and
finished getting ready.
