Chapter One
I walked out of the cold, dark dance studio into the warmth of the sun I tried to keep my stomach from growling. I had been practicing since seven in the morning; it was now three O'clock in the afternoon. I had skipped dinner last night as well as breakfast and lunch today. I had to lose weight for big tryout as dancer for the Backstreet Boys in a week and I was like a hippo compared to the other girls including my best friend Nicole who like all the other dancers in our group, a walking stick. Besides not weighing 2 pound like Nicole did, I'm also very short which was another draw back expectably for a dancer. It's almost as if my body had been made for a science geek because it certainly wasn't a dancer's body.
"Maybe a walk in the park will help get my stupid mind off of food." I mumbled to myself as I usually did. I jogged the short distance from the dance studio to Destiny Park quickly trying again to get some more exercise in. I sat down on the bench in my favorite spot that was full of flowers and trees it was just all together beautiful. I looked down at myself realizing I was still in my Jazz shoes. "Shoot I can't do anything right!" I harshly whispered to myself as I reached for my bag and took out my sneakers. Just as I sat up my stomach started to uncontrollably growl.
"I'm so hungry maybe just one little snack. No, you can't eat anything hold out until dinner. Or maybe even breakfasts tomorrow just don't eat anything. I have to have food just a little bit. No food. Food. No Food. I need food." I fought with my self. I must have sounded like a complete wacko because I got many stares from people walking by as I often get when I talk to myself. But I didn't care I was too busy trying to decided how badly I wanted or needed food.
" Here have some chips." Spoke a soft male voice behind me as a hand attached to a bag of chips extended over my shoulder. "I think you need it more than I do." He said as he walked around the bench still holding out the bag of chips to me as he sat down. It was my favorite too, Funyons.
"No, that's okay. I'm not hungry." I said waving away the bag of chips. It was strange, I felt as if I had heard that voice somewhere before. When I looked up from starring at the chips I notice the guy who had offered them was wearing a baseball cap along with a pair of sunglasses.
"Um Are you sure about that because from the sound of that argument you just had with yourself I think you could really use them." He said with a smile. A smile I would know anywhere. I was sitting on the same bench as NICKCARTER!!! My hands shot up to my mouth to muffle a scream as my eyes popped out of their sockets.
"Ohmygod! Ohmygod! Y - y- y- you're Nick Carter!" I spoke softly with my hands still over my mouth and my eyes ready to explode. Nick looked down blushing as he took off the sunglasses.
"How'd you recognize me? I thought I had a good disguise this time." He smiled at me once more.
"I I I Y Y.Y u. Th That Smile." It was all I could get out of mouth my tongue had suddenly stopped functioning. I sat there gazing into Nick's beautiful blue eyes smiling like an idiot for what seemed like an hour I wasn't hungry anymore just in heaven as I sat there.
"Okay? Well, you know my name but I don't know your name." Nick spoke calmly and slowly as if making it easier for me to understand.
"My name is My name is Uh Uh My name is " Geeze you idiot how could you forget your own name, just think!
Think hard what is your name!
"Hey Samantha! I thought you'd be here. Hey, who's your friend?" I turned around to see my best friend Nicole walking up.
Samantha yeah Samantha that's my name! Out of the corner of my eye I saw Nick quickly grab his sunglasses and put them back on.
"Hey Nicole." I answered. Somehow finding my mouth did have a purpose called talking. I could see that Nick looked uneasy as he stared at the ground. "Scoot over." I moved to the side as Nicole sat down besides me eyeing Nick. As Nicole sat down Nick quickly got up and readjusting his baseball cap and glasses.
"Well, Samantha, I have to go see you later." Nick almost whispered as he extended his hand out to me. I knew he wanted me to shake it but all I could do was stare at it. I don't know when or how but I somehow felt my tiny hand in his as he gave me that heart-melting smile before turning to leave. As he left it was all I could do not to scream out and to stay claim.
"Well, that was kind of rude. He didn't even introduce himself to me. Well, any way did you hear about what happened to Jenny? Uh Sam are you listening" It seemed as Nicole's voice was a million miles away as I started after the cutest guy on the planet who told me miss tongue tied that he'll see me later; I was in heaven. I don't know how or what happened after that as I went though the rest of the day in a daze and somehow ended up at the dinner table with my family as I finally came back to reality.
"So Sam, Who'd practice go?" My mother asked as she spooned some mashed potatoes on to my plate. You know, you would think that she would know after 16 years that I didn't like them.
"Fine" I said as I pushed the potatoes to the edge of my plate away from the edible food still thinking about Nick's beautiful blue eyes.
