9-1

When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me? Psalm 56: 3-4

This Psalm sounds almost like a prayer, doesn't it? It is simple, yet so powerful. It may also be one of the hardest things to actually practice. Most of us go to the Lord in Prayer at one time or another, no matter if we are Christians or not.

Asking the Lord to help us is a natural thing in faith. Yet many times we may feel that the Lord isn't listening or he is too busy to hear our prayers because our answers don't come in the time frame we expect them to or maybe we just aren't happy with the answer we get. Essentially we are shutting God out and returning to our selves for all of the answers. Would you turn to a close friend or spouse for advice or help and promptly walk away? That would be senseless, obviously, if you asked, you wanted their help, and what would be the point? But that is exactly what we are doing to God when we do not trust in him to help us through our troubles and even our happy times.

When we are down, it seems so easy to turn from God, not believe in his promise to us, and forget the Big Picture.

The Big Picture?

The Big Picture is not what will happen in a few months, a few years, or even a few decades, but God's promise to us of everlasting life. One need not be afraid of anything that one goes through here on Earth. If we truly believe in Him and His word, he will never abandon us and we need not fear that he is not listening to us nor helping us every step of the way. The really good thing about God is that he does not categorize our prayers in order of importance. One thing is just as important as the next. He is there to help us and will do so if you let him.

As is written, this is only passing. Of course we will still worry about things that effect our life now, but with God's help and the knowledge that He would never present us with something we couldn't handle makes fear and anxiety a little easier to deal with.

Simply Trust in him. The simplest and hardest thing we do.

Thought for the week: Allow God to help you by opening yourself up to the Holy Sprit and trusting Him enough to allow Him to walk with you.
