Unfortunately I didn't see this pageant but I do know what happened so here we go, CSMU 99. This year's format has slightly different then other years because of the recond number of contestants. The pre-show was the same as years before, half the delegates were interviewed by a panel of judges while the other half were judged in the optional talent portion.
The show began with a dance number consiting of upbeat songs, like that Strike a Pose song and some swing songs. After that the contestants began introducing themselves. As I said before there was a record number, from 10 provinces, here they are:

After this the Delegates quickly changed into their evening gowns while the judges where being introduced. They all competed in evening gown competition in which they displayed their gowns with their escorts and little sisters, to the music of Limited Edition, who was also at the pageant the year before.
I think that after this the awards were named, and they were:

Talent winner Jennifer Sangiuliano
-Miss Congeniality: Miss New Brunswick, Maud Michel
-Miss talent: Miss Norther Ontario, Jennifer Sangiuliano
-Miss Photogenic: Miss Nothern Ontario, Gita Bali
-Miss Fitness: Miss Southern Ontario, Alison Graham(also won
this at MCI)
After this the top ten were called. They were:
-Miss Central Ontario, Shani Whittle
-Miss Interior of Ontario, Farrah Haniff
-Miss Newfoundland, Jennifer Hunter
-Miss Nova Scotia, Emily Maclennan
-Miss Western Ontario, Shannon Mc Arthur
-Miss Northern Quebec, Gita Bali
-Miss Southern Ontario, Alison Graham
-Miss Sylvan Lake, Alberta, Renee Prusak
-Miss St. Albert, Alberta, Kim Yee
-Miss Calgary, Alberta, Angel Dennis
Notice how well the East is doing this year? This is very unusual, because the West usually dominates, but it's cool that things have changed this year.
After this the finalists competed in the swimsuit competition and a new feature, the live reporter segment. For the swimsuit competition all the ladies wore black one piece suits of their own choosing.
After all of this it was time to call the top five finalists, they were:
-Miss Interior of Ontario, Farrah Haniff
-Miss Western Ontario, Shannon McArthur
-Miss Northern Ontario, Gita Bail
-Miss Southern Ontario, Alison Graham
-Miss St Albert, Alberta, Kim Yee
They all anwsered one last set of questions and they the judges decision was made.

Juliana is a doll! She is so great! She did so much during her reign and it's sad to let her go. She is beautiful, smart, kind, and generous, and Juliana, I offer you the best of luck in the future. Thank you for being such a terrific Miss Canadian Universe.
Fourth Runner-Up:
Miss Interior of Ontario, Farrah Hannif
Although I didn't really see Farrah, she looked nice in photos, and I hope she comes back to CSMU or goes to some other national pageant.

Third Runner-Up:
Miss Northern Quebec, Gita Bali
Picture from Miss Millennium International
This girl is so beautiful. She is a model, and was a former Miss Asia Canada. She is also sheduled to compete in the Miss Millienium International pageant in Finland, representing India.

Second Runner-Up:
Miss Southern Ontario, Alison Graham
Alison is very beautiful and has competed in different pageants other then CSMU. She competed in the 1998 and 2000 MCI pageants, and was a finalist in 2000 pageant and won the swimsuit competition. She went to Miss Ocktoberfest and was the first runner-up. She was had a lot of experience in pageants and a lot of sucess, and would make a very good international representitive for that reason.

First Runner-Up:
Miss St Albert, Alberta, Kim Yee
Kim did very well and also won the title of Miss Alberta later that year. She was sheduled to compete in this year's MCI pageant but was unable to do so. The gown shot of her above is in the gown that she wore in CSMU'99 but she did so with gloves. Pretty, isn't she?

Miss Canadian Universe 1999
Miss Western Ontario, Shannon McArthur
Always a favorite at this pageant, I am very glad that Shannon won. She has had a long pageant career, including 3 times at CSMU, Miss Octoberfest, and MCI. She is a great choice, smart and beautiful. And, who can help but love that long blond hair? Well, what more can I say, congradulations Shannon, the Miss Canadian Universe crown is yours.
A great queen for an always improving pageant. It's interesting to note that all the award winners and all of the top five were trained by Marie-Jose Pappeanu. It really shows that training pays off! Well just have to see next year's pageant, because the girls are continuously getting more and more competitive each year, and I'm sure that next year they'll really have to battle over who will be able to represent our country at the World's more prestigious pageant.
