The Long and Winding Road...

Well, since that last bit of good stuff was written, quite a bit has happened.....

First of all, after playing as a four-piece for a short while (following the failed Porter-Dowson-Lopes experiments), ZBP decided to recruit a former Abyss frontman who has requested to go unnamed. Although he fit the band perfectly, after a couple of shows, he stopped showing up to band practices. Thus, the band had no choice but to give him the boot.... This chapter in the ZBP story seems to be unfinished....

After the unceremonial ousting of the aforementioned frontman, the band decided to give playing as a four-piece some serious thought and recorded their first demo, entitled "Weak", at Newmarket Multimedia with Dan Preston behind the controls. The 5-song disc was decent at best and something like only 25 copies were made. The track listing was as follows: 1. Time's Exit Wound, 2. The Weak, 3. Death of Silence, 4. Source of Devastation, 5. Burning Paper Walls.

Following the recording of the Weak demo, which was in July 2001, Nathan moved to London, ON as he would be attending Fanshawe College the coming September. After trying (maybe) to get his butt back to Newmarket every couple of weekends for practices and shows, he decided that he couldn't cut it and left the band in late December.

Following this crushing blow, the three remaining members contemplated the fate to the band. Not wanting to throw the towel in just yet, the three soldiers of death decided to go it alone, not wanting to risk the band's chemistry and tightness at the expense of bringing in another guitarist or vocalist.

Since then, Zero Based Perception has written and played the best and most complex songs of their short careers, and have completed yet another demo (recorded late February '02) called "Existential Hypocrisies". This second demo sounds like a completely different band when compared to the first. A much tighter, much heavier and much better produced (as well as much more expensive!) demo, the track listing is as follows: 1. Forever your Keeper, 2. The Weak, 3. The Outsider, 4. Futility in Three Parts, 5. Apparatus of Predation.

With all this in mind, it seems that ZBP have gotten through the worst -- at least for the time being. The future looks bright, however the road will not be an easy one. The road of metal is paved with the skulls of those who have failed before... Only the Emerald Sword can save them now.... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!
