Events that occurred during and in the days after the New York Rock Radio (KROCK) annual music festival, the Dysfunctional Family Picinic. 6/23/00.
a) Apparently Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst was the center of controversy yet again at this past Friday on June 23rd at the K-Rock Dysfunctional Family Picnic. The concert went smoothly as Sevendust and the Deftones played through their sets but as Godsmack neared the end of their performance, it was announced that Limp Bizkit was stuck in traffic and that the band would as such play a few more tracks, which they did, this was followed by a lengthy delay after which Limp Bizkit took the stage and began making disparaging remarks about Creed frontman Scott Stapp and the band involving how he thought they sucked and dissing them quite a bit. The crowd began to become quite rowdy at which point the show organizers cut the sound on Fred's mic, they then gave him a few minutes to cool down before turning the sound back on to which Durst began throwing each mic off the stage essentially throwing a fit that he was cut off, although the band did manage to perform around half a dozen songs in the process though. It is thought that Fred's sharp words for Creed stem from the fact that Creed had top billing on the show as opposed to Limp Bizkit who had third highest billing below the Stone Temple Pilots and Ozzy Osbourne respectively. Known friend of Fred Durst, Scott Weiland even spoke out on the matter during his bands set chastising Durst for his actions although he did state that he still liked Fred but thought that his behavior was uncalled for. More details on this as they come.
b) More word
has come down on just what happened at this past Fridays K-Rock Dysfunctional
Family Picnic, apparently Limp Bizkit were not caught in traffic, and instead
refused to come on stage while it was still light out, their delay pushed back
both the Stone Temple Pilots and Ozzy Osbourne's sets, this angered Ozzy's wife
Sharon Osbourne who allegedly pulled the plug on Limp Bizkit's set herself. No
word yet has come down on why Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst verbally attacked
Creed, but his direct quote was:
"I want to dedicate this next song to the lead singer of Creed.... That guy
is an egomaniac, he's a fucking punk, and he's backstage right now acting like
fucking Michael Jackson. Fuck that motherfucker, and fuck you too.... And if you
want, there's going to be a booth with pillows and blankets for when Creed comes
on."
c) Creed have
now released an official statement regarding the events that took place with
Limp Bizkit at this past Fridays K-Rock Dysfunctional Family Picnic, here it is:
"We are extremely disappointed that Fred Durst has taken his personal
feelings toward us public, considering we have never met or spoken to him. We
are more disappointed that Fred is manipulating the media and the truth by using
Creed as a scapegoat for his own immature and egotistical actions. Reports have
falsely claimed that Fred was stuck in traffic, which caused the fans to wait an
hour in the heat at K-Rock's 'Dysfunctional Family Picnic.' In fact, Fred
arrived and was very angry with the scheduled lineup due to the fact that Limp
Bizkit was performing before nightfall and before Creed. He then refused to go
on stage causing management from K-Rock, Creed, Stone Temple Pilots and Ozzy
Osbourne to spend nearly an hour trying to figure out how to get Limp Bizkit to
take the stage. Fred finally agreed to play only after he "finished his
dinner," having accomplished his obvious goal of delaying his set. We don't
appreciate Fred's treatment of Creed, the other artists on the bill, K-Rock, the
radio station that has supported Creed, the fans, nor do we appreciate his
disregard for the truth. Furthermore, we don't appreciate his lack of
responsibility for his own actions, and his attempts to deflect blame with
criticism of us and our fans."
d) Limp
Bizkit frontman Fred Durst has responded back to Creed's latest statement about
his behavior at this past Friday's K-Rock Dysfunctional Family Picnic, here's
what he had to say:
"What I said about Creed, I meant. The starting time of our New York show
had nothing to do with my comments. I bet some fans who have tried to meet them
would agree. I don't ever care about what other people in the business say. Our
fans know what we're about and that's all that matters to me."
e) Howard Stern announced on his radio show that it was
Sharon Osbourne who pulled the plug on Limp Bizkit's set at the Disfunctional
Family Picnic concert last Friday in Holmdel, NJ. Frontman Fred Durst was giving
everyone trouble about going on later in the day instead of his allotted time
slot. This in turn pissed off Ozzy (especially his wife Sharon), Stone Temple
Pilots, and Creed, and all threatened to walk off if Fred got his way. After 90
minutes of fighting, all was worked out but Sharon wanted revenge. Onstage,
while Fred Durst was in between songs, talking to the crowd, Sharon Osbourne cut
the power off!
