Interviewed With: Joe Paris

2FacedWorld.com: Alright so I'm here with Joe from Lither...so what has the band been up to the past couple months?

Joe Paris: We've been writing new material for our follow up to Perfect Reflections Fade. We also had to fill a vacated bassist spot.

2FW: Who is the new bassist and how did you come to choose him?

JP: We actually had tried out at least five bassists for the spot and we couldn't find anyone that really fit and felt right. So as of right now, we have been talking again to Marc and it's very possible that he will re-join the band. We have been bassist-less for a couple months now and have been writing as a three piece, but we are lucky enough that Vote can hold his own on bass as well as guitar.

2FW: You guys have gone through some lineup changes in the past, has that affected the way the music sounds now, as opposed to what it was like about a year ago?

JP: hahaha Actually the only person that hasn't been with Lither since the beginning is our drummer, Paul, who joined our band after our first two shows and replaced our old drummer. But as far as our sound now, it has changed only because we've grown as musicians and not really because of our lineup changes.

2FW: How would you describe what it sounds like now to someone who has never heard it before?

JP: umm I think our sound now is a lot more dynamic than it is on Perfect Reflections Fade . It's also a lot more emotional and more personal.

2FW: Why did you decide to start singing? I hear you started out on drums.

JP: haha there were a lot more people I knew who could drum and were willing to play in a band. There was also no one that really had the balls to just grab a mic and just go with it. I guess I was willing to make the tranisiton and do it for the band.

2FW: Do you think singing lets you express yourself more than anything else you could be doing?

JP: yea it's much more personal than sitting behind a drum kit.

2FW: Tell me a little bit about the side project youre working on right now.

JP: It's called Prince John and The Paris Project. It's basically a duet acoustic comedic rock band. It's almost the exact opposite of Lither hahaha. Lots of perverted songs about The Olsen Twins hahaha.

2FW: haha, So is the Prince John refering to the John that plays guitar for Lither?

2FW: No actually a different John

2FW: Olsen Twins huh? So are you waiting for their 18th birthdays just like everyone else?

JP: hahaha can't wait.

2FW: ya know Bob Saget can't either.

JP: It's actually my 18th birthday right now!

2FW: What was the first thing you did when you turned 18?

JP: haha drank until i threw up

2FW: always a good way to start adulthood

JP: hahaha yea

2FW: So back to the music, when do you expect to have the new cd released?

JP: Late August or early September

2FW: You guys have opened up for quite a few big names, which one are you most proud to tell people about?

JP: Probabaly Krisiun, The Crown, or Arson, but suprisingly Prince John and The Paris Project will be openeing for The Dissenters,
who are on a few dates of the Warped Tour this summer. Actually, Spineshank it just slipped my mind!!!

2FW: haha, yeah that would of been my first choice

2FW: What do you hope to get out of Lither? Do you wanna take over the world or what?

JP: haha if you asked Vote that question I can garuntee you he'd say YES!!

2FW: Nothin' wrong with that

JP: He's into all of that Army, Presidential bullshit

2FW: What about yourself? Where do you see lither in the next couple years?

JP: Hopefully, after we release the new EP we will have our foot in the door and have some options open. So it's hard to tell until we get some response after our EP is released.

2FW: I've been meaning to ask, why did John decide to start going by the name Vote?

JP: He was concerned having his name all over the internet and because he's all into the political thing he was like yea Vote is sick. I guess it's just different.

2FW: What do you think about programs like Audio Galaxy, Napster and Kazaa? Good thing or not?

JP: At first I hated Napster, but then I was just compelled to start using it and once I did I loved it, but after it was shut down I haven't once even really thought about using kazaa or any other program. I like mp3.com though cuz artists are given more control.

2FW: yeah for sure, I know that's how I found out about a lot of unsigned bands.

JP: yea for finding new bands it's a good thing, but sometimes it's just plain stealing bro.

2FW: So when you were first getting into music, what really made you decide to start your own band?

JP: Rage Against the Machine really started me off into the direction of heavier music, because before them I liked bands like The Cranberries and like Live. But I'm sorry to say really Limp Bizkit got me into the whole metal thing.

2FW: They were cool back in the day.

2FW: Is there any certain singer that really did it for you?

JP: Chino Moreno defineitely will always be a god to me. He inspired me to start singing. After the first time i heard Adrenaline i never listened to music the same.

2FW: That's a great album.

2FW: Have you heard any of the new Team Sleep stuff yet?

JP: yea I've heard some Team Sleep. I'm all for it.

2FW: It's always good to see when a band, or even a certain person from a band can go in different directions musically.

2FW: What about drummers though? Was there a drummer that you liked a whole lot?

JP: I really didn't like anyone specific when I played drums, but I liked Abe Cunnigham and Jimmi Chamberlin of the Smashing Pumpkins. But now I'm really digging the drummer from Lamb of God. He's incredible.

2FW: Oh no kiddin? I don't know a whole lot about drummers, but from what I hear most people say, the dude from Tool and the guy from Messhuggah are really good.

JP: Yea and Danny Carey from Tool is great. Paul loves him!! Sexually!!

2FW: haha...and who does the rest of the band love sexually? if the whole band was gay of course...

JP: haha probabaly each other

2FW: sounds like a hell of a party

JP: haha fuck yea

2FW: Is that video gonna be floating around on Ebay? You know if Vote ever wants to be President, that might come back to haunt him.

JP: haha that's crazy that you mention video because there are sooo many Lither videos that would love to find there way onto Ebay. Like we have a video tape of a show that I got whiplash at and the mic came unplugged at least 4 times. It was a sick show. And Vote actually loves tapping random shit.

2FW: Jesus, how did ya manage the whiplash? A lot of headbanging?

JP: yea it was crazy and i guess maybe stupid at the same time.

2FW: Probably fun at the time though. Plus when ya make it big, you can put that shit on a DVD or somethin'

JP: yea it was a great crowd, they kick ass!!

2FW: Was that a NJ show?

JP: yea, really local

2FW: Do you guys ever play shows out of state?

JP: No not usually, we've been trying to get a real stable lineup together and hook up with some of the bands that are ready to take us out with them.

2FW: yeah thats not a bad idea at all

JP: we've been trying to get something together with our friends Dust To Dust from NY.

2FW: I've heard you guys talk about them before, how did you come to know them?

JP: Vote is pretty friendly with the band and he runs their official fan site when he gets the time.

2FW: Well I don't really have anymore questions for you, before we go though, is there anything you'd like to say to the Olsen Twins if they're reading this?

JP: haha yea i wanna meet up the next time yall in NJ and have a good time. They're Damn Hotties!!

2FW: haha, well happy birthday, thank you for doing the interview, and good luck with the new recording and the new side project.

JP: yea anytime bro thanks a lot
