April 11th Show At Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel in Providence

I recently caught KiTTiE on their "Run Like Hell" Tour. Here's my review on the show.

It was about 6:20 pm, standing outside of Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel in Providence, Rhode Island. Finally, only 20 minutes late, they opened the doors, and fans piled in. I had got the better place to stand in the house. Front and center. Well, actually, a little to the right of the center, because of the asshole sitting on the barrier rail to my left.

The first band to perform was a band named My Ruin. Although, at the time, I had never heard of them. They kicked off their set, and I must admit. Fuckin' awesome music! The strange thing was, they reminded me alot of KiTTiE's old music. Only it was slighty simplier. The crowd wasn't really feeling them that much, but I know that Mercedes Lander and Jay from Flaw were feeling it, they were standing to the left of the stage, watching attentively.

At about 6:52 pm, My Ruin had finished their set. Next up was Skinlab. Aside from the smoke, the beer being spilled, and the asshole smoking a joint next to me, it was already a good time.

Skinlab began their set at 7:02 pm, getting the fuckin' crowd into it right away. If you have seen Skinlab, you know what I'm fuckin' talking about. The crowd was nuts, but not as wild as it would get. Skinlab put on a good performance. I only had one problem, though, I couldn't hear the vocals. The words were drowned out their entire set. Unless that's what they wanted, but what the fuck do I know?

Skinlab finished their set at about 8:00 pm. Watching the roadies pack up Skinlab's equipment, and Flaw's roadies set up their equipment, the fuckin crowd pushed forward. My ribs were now puncturing my lungs, and I couldn't move.

Flaw kicked off their set with the song "Reliance", getting the crowd fired up immediately. Their set was on like this the entire time. The fuckin' pit was getting bigger, only cramming me farther into the barrier rails. Flaw ended their set with the song "Payback". I must admit, Flaw is fuckin' awesome live!

At about 8:52 pm, Flaw was finished, and KiTTiE's roadies were setting up.

9:05 pm. The place was dead silent, waiting for KiTTiE. Looking to the left side of the stage, well, the right side to the crowd, Jennifer Arroyo pokes her head out, along with her middle finger. The crowd fuckin' roared, and a compliment of fingers were thrown back at her. Mercedes Lander sat down at her drum set, barely noticable through all the smoke. The crowd was still screaming, as Arroyo was winding us up with, "I can't fuckin' hear you guys!" and "Let me see your fuckin' hands!" The next instant, Morgan Lander steps out from the right side of the stage, and everybody fuckin' screams!

As Jennifer was winding up the crowd, Morgan began the guitar riff from "Pink Lemonade" for an moment. Then, when Morgan gave the signal, the right hand risen in the air, they kicked off with "Severed". The whole fuckin' crowd was crazy! Hands in the air, heads banging and bodies flying!

KiTTiE continued their set, the fuckin' crowd wild as they went on. Between songs, Arroyo would still be winding us up, screamin "Are you mutha-fuckers with us tonight or what!" and "I can't fuckin hear you!"

KiTTiE ended their set with "Brackish", interestingly adding the last part to "Choke" into it. The fans were still cheering, minutes after they had ended. The lights came back on, and beaten, battered, deafened and destroyed souls left the club. The only part that pissed me off was, I caught a KiTTiE pick, only, they were generic picks.

I was waiting outside around 11:00pm, and Jen Arroyo was by the side door, personalizing autographs for fans. She thanked everybody, and was even distributing hugs for everyone. I was able to ask her a few questions.

Me(AC): Hi, my name is Alex, and I run a KiTTiE fansite. I was just hoping that maybe I could borrow a few minutes of your time.
Jennifer Arroyo(JA): Go ahead.

AC: Well, first off, great fuckin' show. You have one of the coolest stage personalities that I have ever seen.
JA: Thank you.

AC: So I was just wondering, how did you know KiTTiE in the first place?
JA: Actually, we've known each other for a few years now. It was during the Farmclub.com show, we met at the shoot for it. That was over two years ago.

AC: I can sure agree that you're an awesome bassist. So, how do you get along with the Lander sisters?
JA: Oh, we get along great. They're both really nice, really cool people to hang around with.

AC: So how did you end up replacing Talena Atfield?
JA: I guess I was pretty lucky, huh? Actually, Talena and Morgan had discussed it ahead of time. Well, Talena quitting and all. Morgan just gave me a call. She told me that Talena had quit, and asked me if I wanted to replace her. So, I was faced with the abrubt decision. I had two days to completely change my life around, and get my ass up to London, Ontario.

AC: And you would never turn down an opportunity like that?
JA: No shit, who would! It was like a dream come true.

AC: Well, I'm gonna let you go. You still have plenty of fans awaiting you.
JA: Thank you so much for coming by.

Ten minutes later, cheering arises as Morgan Lander exits the club with the word "It's fucking freezing out here!"
As the circle of fans engulfed her, I waited to the side. Once the number of fans dwindle to about seven, I approached her.

AC: Can you sign these for me? (extending Spit, Paperdoll, Oracle, "Spit In You Eye" video, poster, etc..)
Morgan Lander(ML): Oh, Yeah! You've got the whole bunch!

Morgan begins signing shit. She begins signing the cd booklets.

ML: Uno, ...... dos......

Some girl named Amber pokes her head in.
Amber: What are you drawing?
ML: I'm drawing a little face. But I have to make it evil though... so, uh, and uh... there.

Morgan hands me back my stuff.

Amber: What did you do?
ML: I drew the evil eyebrows in.
Amber: (Laughs) Oh.

AC: HI, I'm Alex, and I run a fansite. I was hoping that maybe you can enlighten me on a few questions.
ML: Er, fine.

AC: Well, Talena Atfiled recently quit. And I must admit that Arroyo is a great replacment. Do you have anything to comment on recent events?
ML: Well, Talena left to pursue "other projects", and it was kind of discussed ahead of time. But as the saying goes "Out of all bad things, comes something good." And I am a true believer in that.

AC: So do you get along with Jen?
ML: Oh, yeah. Jen is a really sweet person.

AC: Now, the lyrics on 'SPiT' seem to be alot about betrayal, hatred, anger, jealousy. The thing is that those songs were written, like, five years ago. Do you still view the world in that way?
ML: Well, since those songs were written, we have gone through different experiences. It's given us a lot of time to mature, and have a different outlook towards the world.

AC: So what are your plans for the future?
ML: Oh, we're gonna stay on the "Run Like Hell" tour, cuz' all the shows have been fucking, (pumps fist) "yea!"

AC: Well, I'm gonna let you go now. I still need to ask your sister a few questions.
ML: Thank you.

Mercedes Lander had just exited the club, talking to one of the members of Skinlab. I walked over to her.

AC: Can you sign these, please?
Mercedes: Yea, sure.

AC: Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?
Mercedes: I'm sorry. I'm fucking tired as hell, I need to sit down.

Mercedes walks down to the tour bus and enters. As I'm waiting outside, Dave (my ride), drags me off. Cuz he had to work the next morning. I was never able to get and questions with Mercedes.

In all, the show was fucking awesome! You better go fucking check them out! I highly suggest that you do.
