    Jessicas Experiences

Hi, my name is Jessica! My first Goo experience was in April of 2000. I won a radio contest on the Michigan Metro Detroit radio station 93.1 WDRQ. We had to send an e-mail to them that told what question we would ask the Goo's if we were to get to meet them. They would then pick the top 93 (i think it was 93, it has been while and I don't exactly remember) people to go Comerica Park to see the Goos. Comerica Park is our new baseball park and at this time it was just weeks before opening day. We all would meet in the restaurant inside the ballpark called The Tiger's Den. We could get dinner and drinks and then stay for the Goo's radio interview and listen to them play a few songs. The 93 winners could also bring a guest. After the winners were picked, they were narrowed down to the top ten finalists. These finalists got to get their picture taken with the Goo's and ask them their question on the radio. I was chosen as one of the top 10 finalists. My question was "What is the craziest thing a fan has ever done for you?" When I got the call that I was a winner I was beyond excited! The Goo Goo Dolls are my favorite band and I couldn't wait to meet them. That day I couldn't eat a thing I was so excited. My friend and I got down to Comerica Park hours early. We were the first ones there. As soon as a crowd started forming I began talking to Goo fans from all over. It was so cool to be in a crowd of people who loved the Goos as much as I did. When we went inside, we were in a big restaurant like area. As we turned the corner I saw a little stage area where to Goos would be sitting. My friend and I sat right up front. After a little while they announced that the top ten winners needed to meet in a room in the back to get their picture taken with the Goo Goo Dolls. Once is the room, we all made a line and took turns getting our picture taken. There were trays of food everywhere in the room, but no one was eating it. At a point Johnny said "Come on everyone, eat! It's free!" When it was my turn to get my picture taken, I told Johnny and Robby how much I loved their music. Then for the picture John put his arm around me and then gave me a kiss on the cheek. I wasn't sure what to say, so I just smiled and said "Thanks." he responded with, "No, thank you. I don't get to kiss very many beautiful girls." Then we went out and had the interview. We stood in a line and took turns asking them our questions, live on the radio. When I asked "What is the craziest thing a fan has ever done for you?", Johnny went into this big 10 minute story about a psycho fan in a hotel. It was so funny. Then they sang a few songs and gave us a little concert.

My second Goo meeting experience was in April of 2002. The Goo's were coming back to Michigan for radio promotions of their new CD Gutterflower. I received an e-mail that they would be on the radio sometime nect week. I called Channel 955 which is 95.5. I asked if they would be giving away chances to come down to the studio when the Goo's where there. The guy who answered the phone said that I needed to listen the next morning between 5:30am - 10:00am and they would tell me what to do. So the next morning, my alarm went off and heard "I need called 95 now and you can meet the Goo Goo Dolls!" Half asleep I dialed the radio station. After what seemed like forever it finially rang, and I was the 95th caller!! I must have sounded like such an idiot. I was half asleep but so excited! On the morning of the interview, my friend and I got down to the radio station about an hour early. We went in and waited. Then a van pulled up and out came Johnny, Robby, and Mike. We listened to the radio interview, and then got to get our picture taken with them and an autograph. I brough my picture from last time to show them, and they said they remembered it. After the picture I got another kiss on the cheek from Johnny!! They both were memorable fun experiences. I am so lucky to have met my favorite band twice!
