Another wave of bands revives UK rock

The 1960s was the golden age of British rock, thanks to the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and the Who. The pipeline has flowed ever since, but with off-and-on success that has often frustrated both sides of the Atlantic.
It's been tough in recent years as the Brits veered away from rock to chase a techno-dance path. Now a harder edge is coming with original, if retro-tinged, bands like the Coral, the Libertines, the Music, Fiction Plane, and Feeder.
These acts, which follow in the tradition of British guitar rock, are ready to hit the United States with a shot of much-needed adrenaline and attitude.
''The whole band came together on the premise of kind of being a Nirvana band, then we pulled in our other influences and went beyond that,'' says Sumner, adding that those other influences included ska bands, along with a range of acts from the Smashing Pumpkins and U2 to James Taylor.
