SXSW Review

SXSW day 2
Karen - Austin 360

Next up at the HRC is London's own Fiction Plane. They must have said their name 15 times and I never caught it. What I did catch was their obvious affection for each other and the sheer delight of getting to play! Their own music! In front of people! In 70 degree weather!
The music was guitar pop - melodically sound with the crunchy guitar thing and an effusive drummer who took his skins to task and made them behave. So to speak. He drummed hard, is all I'm saying.
Fiction Plane's music was good-natured (I know, I know; but it was). Good driving music, good car music period. This stuff would be fun to sing along with, if your vocal chords can take the workout.
In one song early in the set, maybe the third or fourth, the singer used the subjunctive correctly. He was either singing "I wish I were dead" or "I wish I were Dave" (either one would have fit in context). Kids, remember: You can rock out and still use good grammar. They are officially my second favorite band at the fest. Go, Fiction Plane! Good songs all around. Nothing that's going to challenge you, but it was fun and it was catchy and it made for a good time.
