Formed in 2001, members of the gold coast band are Peter Kranztcke(vocals), Matthew Nosworthy(Bass), Chris Dennis(Drums) and Daniel Maynard(Guitar,Backup Vocals). The band originally began as Malestrom when Peter and Daniel were in high school together. Back then it was all twisted around, Peter played guitar, Daniel played drums and a friend from school played bass and sang. Eventually Sean gave up on the bass and just sang, Daniel gave up on drums and moved to Bass and peter continued on guitar while they searched for a drummer. Peter mentioned a friend of his, Simon, who played drums and they decided to have a jam. All went well and Simon stayed for a few months. Not soon after sean ended up leaving the band for undisclosed reasons and it twisted around again, Peter moved to vocals, Daniel moved to Guitar and they were now in need of a Bass player. This is when Matt comes into the story. Peter had a cousin who played bass called Matt(Noz) and they decided to give him a try. Matt has been with them ever since. After about a month Simon got offered an apprenticeship and left the band. Now it was time to search for a drummer, and Daniel had a friend who he had played in bands with several times for years before, this was Chris(dennis). Dennis also went to the same school as Peter and Daniel, by now though peter had graduated. They decided to have a jam and since that day they haven't changed. Throughout that whole thing somewhere they changed there name to Elk. In 2003 the band signed up to MP3.com.au and posted there demo song "So Empty" which ended up charting at 63 on the rock charts. There main idol bands are Sunk Loto, The Butterfly Effect, Mudvayne and Deftones. The band have played a couple of gigs on the coast now and have nearly finished writing there ep titled "The Middle Of Somewhere Over There". They are looking to record sometime in september of 2004.
