| Here is another way to
permanently mount connections for fast, easy plug in of your battery
trickle charger. If you have several toys that need battery
maintenance, then this method will allow you to share the trickle
charger among them all. Add the same size jack per item. Parts
needed (Radio Shack as reference):

274-1583 Pwr Jack 274-1568 Pwr Plug
270-1237 Fuse Holder
It doesn't matter which brand or size power plugs/power jacks are
used, but they both have to be the same size to mate properly. The
plugs/jacks shown are 2.5mm.
Start by drilling the proper size hole in the bottom of the coil
cover to accept the chosen panel mount type power jack. Solder a
black ground wire (18g) on the outer shell terminal of the power
jack. Solder one end of the fuse holder red
wire to the center conductor terminal of the power jack. Add extra
wire to the fuse holder if necessary to reach the battery. Mount the
power jack and secure with thread lock. Route the red and black wires
to the battery area. Solder a ring terminal lug on the black ground
wire and attach to the OEM ground frame connection point located at
the base of the fuel tank. Solder a ring terminal lug of proper size
to accept the positive red battery cable bolt. Position the red wire
lead/lug against the battery casing, such that the main battery cable
is on the outside. Tighten battery cable. Insert a fuse in the fuse
holder with a 2 AMP MAX fuse. Test with charger.
If you have other bikes, lawnmowers, etc, just add the correct size
panel jack to each, and share the charger!
The great thing about good trickle chargers, they will maintain
your battery to 100% charge, then shut off without cooking the
battery. As the battery gradually drains back down to say 97% (all
batteries drain when not being charged) , the charger will
automatically kick in and bring the battery back to 100%.
Just as a quick tutorial, each cell in the battery is rated at
2.1v. Modern commercial batteries have 6 cells per battery, hence a
fully charged battery is rated at 12.6v.
The standard charging voltage goal is 13.8v. Most trickle chargers
will commence charging at ~12.3v
