Moses Campbell Hall

I received a lovely little email from a former owner of Campbell Hall who gave me the above picture along with a brief history of the place.  It seems the Mitchell Military School had burned down in 1935.  It was purchased
in 1943 at a bankruptcy sale and it stayed vacant until the 1950s. Then it was sold and a contractor put 2 single
homes on the land.

The person who sent me this pic lived in this house until it was sold to the Sweeney Funeral Home in 1972.  His
father had been the one who had purchased the property after the bankruptcy. On the lot was an apple orchard
with 150 trees and a gymnasium behind Campbell Hall.

He knew some of the Mitchell family too.  If you drive down Kenmar Lane through the apartments, you may
see a small house that now looks out of place (I don't know if it's still there or not). That was the stable and
house where the youngest Mitchell lived with his two kids, Johnny and Lois, who were also his closest friends.
In 1954, the Mitchells moved to California and the stable got turned into a duplex.

The house on the corner across from Whiting St. was the headmaster's house.  It later became Sweeney's
Funeral Home and after he moved into Campbell Hall, it was sold to the church but got torn down.

I want to thank Ted for his email history on Campbell Hall and the Mitchell Military School!
Thanks Ted!
