Cubism

Cubism reigned between 1908 and 1912 and set the path for a range of unconvential art and led to the development of surrealist art. This artistic movement proceeded Impressionism. Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), was a famous Cubist painter and sculptor who began the Cubist movement along with the French painter, Georges Braque (1882-1963). Images and figures are often hidden in cubist art, making the audience search for these figures to "see" the whole picture. Cubism is not interested in portraying naturalism and how the world perceives things. Cubism makes use of geometry and non-proportional shapes. Angles flourish in cubist paintings. The art is similar to that of jigsaw puzzles, a collection of shapes thrown together that make up a whole.
