Engulfing himself in late night radio, broadcasting updates from the first and second world war, Ryan's nostalgic personality does not rub off on his modern funk ballad taste in ice cream. Ryan develops in the town of Greenwood, NS, where he is found playing his git-box, often with Joey, and often when no one (he thinks) is looking. I am of course, talking about his love for guitar. Ryan is a founding member of Speedbump, originally partaking in the bass guitar, but moving over to the 'ole 6 string when Marty came on the scene. His training in guitar is sparse, not even visible to the naked eye, yet his playing exceeds all measure of greatness. Ryan's part in the Speedbump experience definately flourishes on stage, when his wackiness actually becomes useful, giving Speedbump a fair amount of stage presence. (Which, in essence, is a large part of a band's success this day and age.)
Speedbump being Ryan's first band, has truly been a learning experience for him, and he has certainly grown as a working member over the year or so that Speedbump has been together. Speedbump is sort of like the crane that lifted Ryan out of an early grave. You see, before Ryan became involved with Speedbump, he was sinking deep into an almost perverse state with cream of mushroom soup. Spending more time with the uncooked chunks of fungis than he would spend with his family and closest freinds. He actually spent one Christams alone in his room with a single can. This anguish was only getting worse when the oppurtunity for Speedbump arose. His involvement with the band drew him away from his cream-filled passion. Yet every now and then you can still see him sporting a can beneath his jacket...
