Hurt is from The Downward Spiral, Halo 8.
Track 14, the last song on the CD, it is an amazing ending to a truely great album. It is a beautiful, moving song, showing Trent's most intimate songwriting.
Considered by some to be his finest work, it was never released as a single but did feature on Further Down The Spiral. The version on Further Down The Spiral was shorter: losing the prolonged ending, and ambience at the beginning. It was called Hurt (quiet) and although almost identical to the The Downward Spiral version, it is apparently a better version technically, with better sound quality and reduced background noise.
Hurt is often played as the last song in NIN's live set, sometimes with a video wall like that in the Hurt video. The Hurt video is of NIN playing live with just Trent visible through a video screen. The screen shows footage of dead animals being eaten by maggets; injured soldiers, and at the end, a beautifully synchronised scene of a bird diving into water and catching a fish.
