Written By : Jarrod my brother and i recently caught the Kings of the Game Tour featuring POD. i am a strong Christian so the opportunity to see 2 Christian music titans like POD and Project 86 together was something i wasn't about to pass up. we found out that (Hed)pe and some new band called Linkin Park were gonna be there too. i knew (Hed) but not the second band. we tried to find a cd by them but after checking the website we learned it was not out yet. so then we tried to find MP3's. we downloaded "One Step Closer" and "By Myself." to say i was impressed was an understatement. it wasn't just another rap/rock band. these guys were great. so we were stoked about this concert. we get there and find out that Linkin Park doesn't start the tour until the following month (October.) my brother and i were bummed. the show still rocked but w! e wanted to know more about this new band. "Hybrid Theory" was released the following day so we tried to get it. it was sold out for 2 weeks. i finally snagged the LAST copy from Best Buy last Saturday. i listened to it all weekend and then took it to work w/ me. just between Monday and Tuesday i have listened to it no less than 10 times all the way through. that's the great thing, there are no, "skip this stupid song" songs on the whole disc. I play the intro to "Papercut" over and over again. Linkin Park brings so much more to the music scene than just some angry little man yelling in a mic w/ guys who just beat the guts out of their instruments. there is great talent, GREAT guitar licks, and a beat that brings about an involuntary head bang. the incredibly smooth flow from emotionally melodic to soul pounding rock is a feat attempted by many but mastered by few. ! ;and Linkin Park is definitely one of the precious few who have pulled it off like pros. the ONLY thing that would have kept me from buying the cd, other than the fact that there were never any left on the shelves, would have been a parental advisory. and i can't say how much i appreciate the fact that there is not ONE SINGLE foul word on the whole disc. it deals w/ a lot of negative topics but they are all just parts of out emotional spectrum. the biggest struggle i have had w/ giving my life to Jesus has been giving up music like Godsmack, (Hed)pe, and Staind due to the fact that they can't seem to be angry w/ out an "F this or F'in that." but thanks to Linkin Park, i have the best of the best w/out having to worry about all that. thanks a million guys! PS I'll see you guys EVERY time you swing through Ohio |
