Selwyn Schneider was born in East London, South Africa.  By the age of 5 he began to show musical interests by singing to Elvis songs. When he reached his teens, he like many others around the world, became a huge Beatles fan. At the age of 11, he was writing his own songs and by the time he reached high school, had his own band called Newton Fig.  Trevor Rabin (Rabbitt guitarist/vocalist) and Selwyn had become close friends during the 70s and together they designed the artwork on Trevor's trademark strat guitar with Selwyn doing the inkwork.

In late 1973? while in the South African army, Selwyn became the drummer for the first incarnation of Rabbitt (excluding the lineup of session musicians).  However, once Neil Cloud joined the band (when all were still in the army), Selwyn was made the second guitarist and Neil was put on drums. After a short while with the band before it became well-known, he left the group, citing personal differences.  From there on he formed his own group called Nexus which lasted about 3 years and whose only recordings are live versions never before released to the public due to the condition of the tapes.

Around the time of 1977, after the demise of Nexus, Selwyn moved to another London – London, England.  There he produced and recorded music.  He appears on two albums “PSML Loves You”, an album of original tributes to Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys that includes the track "Good Morning Brian" and the album, "Soldiers Of The Heart", which he wrote, arranged, sang, and produced  on his own under the name of  Big Bamboo and which includes two favored tracks, "Eventides", a song best known for its catchy chorus lines and "Miracle".
