Mix a theme park, school hols and Girl Thing and you get fun. Even if the sun don't shine...
"Don't forget my baby," bellows Michelle as she climbs out of the car. Baby? Is there something Pink Thing isn't tellin' us? "Or mine!" adds Anika, dashing to the back of the car. Hang on a minute! Two Girl THing babies? What the flip's going on? We've only been with the gals five minutes and already our head is spinning.
Jodi's begging her minder to let her take the car for a spin round the car park, Nikki's running round kissing everyone, Linzi's demanding a copy of the new Smash Hits and Anika And Michelle are busy with their 'babies'.
"D'you like 'em?" They call, zooming over on funkey siver scooters. We got them in Germany. But before we can answer, they've raced off across the car park to say hello to a group of fans.
"I can't wait, I love scary rides" grins Jodi . "Let's go stright on the samural!"
The girls stare up at their first ride, a giant hanging, spinning spider. "You ain't catching me on that!" grumps Linzi, folding her arms. Even Jodi looks horrified, "I can't go either. My hair will look blow in my face and stick to my lipgloss!" Michelle having none of it though, and grabbing Jodi by the arm, drags her on to the ride. Smash Hits bravely decides to keep Linzi company and listen for the screams. And scream they do....
"Oh my god" stammers Nikki as she steps off shakily, "I was so scared! I didn't hear my seat click and thought I was gonna die". "And I've got lipgloss in my hair", moans Jodi, frantically rubbing at her sticky locks. Anika and Michelle just scoot off, calling back, "Where next?"
With their glittery clothes, swanky scooters and bright pink hair, Girl Thing are finding it hard to blend in with the crowd, so before long we're followed by a gaggle of children demanding autograps and pictures. "Go on then , prove to us you can sing ", challenges one, and the girls don't need asking twice , immediately launching into a killer versh of Last one standing.
"Can we have food now?" begs Linzi. "I'm dead 'ungry". Munching away, Linzi whispers a secret confession , "I don't really like rides, not fast ones anyway, and I'm a bit scared of heights. I love the waltzers at the fair though, except I remember once I went and this guy was sick as we were spinning round. It was disgusting". All fessed up, Linzi finishes off her pizza and is ready for action. sort of. "Can we go on a slow one now?"
Not such luck though, 'cos it's time for The Buccaneer, a pirate ship that swing further and further into the air until you think you're going to take off. And although she looks terrified even Linzi is going on this one. "As long as we don't go too high, I don't mind", she says. Oh dear. As we get higher and higher, Anika and Michelle throw their arms up in the air and Jodi screams, "My lipgloss!" pulling a stray hair off her sticky lips. Surprisingly, Linzi's loving it. "If you lift your feet off the floor it's like you're flying!"
Here is the best bit about going on a ride with a famous pop group - as the ride finally stops, the controller into running it three more times, and we only get off when the little girl opposite looks ready to be sick. "I feel really bad now" says Nikki and giving her a huge hug.
Our day is nearly over and there's just one more place the girls want to try. "Rameses' Revenge!" screeches Michell, "I wanne get wet". "I don't" moans Jodi. "What about my hair?" Everyone looks at her in disbelief. "I'm joking!" she teases, "I just won't put any lipgloss on!" Linzi sits this one out, and decides to film from a safe, dry distance. The rest of us sit down on the front row, smack in the middle. We're gonna get so wet.
"I can't do this" panics Nikki scrambling to get off, but Jodi blocks the way and gripping the safety bars she screams as we start to spin. And spin and spin and spin.
And here's the bad side of going on a ride with a famous pop group - the controllers think it's funny to get you very, very, wet. We squelch off, soaked. Jodi's sneezing from all the water up her nose. Nikki's relieved her hair extensions are still in place, Anika looks barely flustered and Michelle has a pink and purple streaming down her face. "I knew my hair will run!" she laughs. "I'm coverd in pink dye. but I don't care. It was brilliant".
Then, as if we weren't wet enough, it started to rain. In fact it pours. "Oh well, we are wet anyway" giggles Michelle with a glint in her eye. And grabbing Nikki and Jodi, she drags them off to jump, dance and splash in the puddles. Not even a typical grotty british summer can put a dampener on a Girl Thing day out.
