Mel C speaks out

Mel C slammed record and management companies as "evil" during British TV show CD:UK on Saturday (June 23rd).

The singer made outspoken comments on the ITV programme when referring to the Spice Girls newest rivals Girl Thing. She said: "I think it's a bit sad that their management and record company have just tried to rip off the Spice Girls. I fear for them because management and record companies are evil."

The brand new girl band were put together in the same formulaic way as the Spice Girls, through an advertisement in Britain's Stage newspaper, by their ex-manager Simon Fuller. He is also the man behind teen sensations S Club 7.

But Girl Thing's singer Michelle Barber has said that they are nothing like the 'Wannabe' superstars. She commented: "We are getting compared to the Spice Girls quite a lot, but at the end of the day we are not them. Yes, we are five girls who have individual personalities, but that's it."

Barber continued: "We are not trying to be the Spice Girls – it's our record company who are touting us as their successors."
