Ever wondered exactly HOW our lovely Girl Thing got together and made it to the top? Here is their story...
September 1998
Bob and Chris Herbert(Same people who got the Spicers together) audition for a new girl band in a stage paper...Load of Girls Showed up and Linzi and Ankia was even on the same train on the way there. Linzi remembers that she took an instant dislike to Anika, cos she kept looking at her. Anika remembers Linzi as bein ga bit snobbish, cos when she asked if she was also going to the audition she said "yeah, so?" Charming...
"Anika, Nikki and Linzi met at an audition in London, I had mine in Manchester. Three weeks later we moved into our house" - Michelle
The house, as it happened was the OLD house of Five! But word has it, they got booted cos they were too noisy!
February 1999
The Fifth member, Jodi Albert, is found and is asked to spend time with the girls to see if they got along. (A bit like how Emma joined the Spice Girls!)
"I stayed with the girls for a weekend - we went bowling and clubbing. By Sunday, we were all friends!" Says Jodi, but it must be hard not to be friends with Jodi, hey? :-)
May 1999
The girls sign a record deal with RCA And they are very happy!...Wouldn't you be!? "That day was dead special to us, 'cos we didn't have it thrown on to our laps, we had to work for it" Says Anika, and that is true.
February 2000 Girl Thing's first performance - warming up the crowd at the Pepsi Chart Show "It was absolutely amazing. We didn't know how the crowd wouldbe, but they went mental, singing our song - Linzi was in tears!" - Nikki ... Awwww. I wonder if they were nervous!
Feb 2000
The Girls start recording bits and pieces for the possible album, and practice dance routines some more. They have to start and get their act together now. Make or Break time
March 3, 2000 Girl Thing attend The Brits! Oh What a night that was! "We were in awe. I saw Robbie Williams, and I've been a fan of his since I was a kid. Me and Jodi were hitting each other, we couldn't believe it!" - Michelle
March 17, 2000
First visit to the Smash Hits office, and they must have loved the girls cos shortly after, a cover shoot followed! "We used our famous charm on everyone...not!" - Michelle
March 27
The first Smash Hits photoshoot... "That was our first proper photoshoot, and we had such a laugh! It was chaos, but everything is wen Girl Thing are involved" - Nikki It was the photo's that launched Girl Thing, and I am sure everyonehas seen them. The girls had loads of fun messing around, jumping up and down with wind machiense.
April 3
Video Shoot for LAST ONE STANDING ...."It was great doing al the things you're not supposed to do!" - Linzi ... It was official, Girl Thing was on the scene as the video played on the Box and soon MTV
April 12
Off to LA for a very important record company showcase "It was for all these suits from RCA, but we got 'em up and dancing! They must have liked us, straight after they hired a limo to take us sightseeing!" - Anika
April 18-22
A week on The Bigger Breakfast "The first day we were up at 4am in the morning, after that it was 6am, but we had such a laugh!" - Linzi
April 29
First appearance on SM:tv "We met Ant, Dec and Cat, and Dec said we were the best thing on the show - thanks Dec!" - Jodi

Girl Thing's first magazine cover - for Smash Hits

June 2000
Parts of Europe, mostly Holland and Belguim are going crazy for Girl Thing already and so Girl Thing make their way over there for some promoting and it was a huge success, plus Anika had loads of fun speaking Dutch to all the fans! Back
