Here is a basic outline to how Darren and Daniel met and Savage Garden formed.

Darren and Daniel met in January 1993 via an advertisement that Daniel placed in 'Time Off' magazine (a local Brisbane music newspaper). He was looking for a singer for his band 'Red Edge'. The advertisement read:

'SERIOUS LEAD VOCALIST WANTED
FOR COMMERCIAL MUSICAL OUTFIT
PRESENTLY FINANCED BY MAJOR
PUBLISHING COMPANY'

They hit it off straight away, Darren has said it was almost like fate, destiny brought them together. After 18 months the group split up and Darren began to find singing cover songs unfullfilling and so they decided to write their own songs.
Around 150 demo tapes under the name 'Bliss' were sent off to record companies and publishers. The 5 track demo had limited interest until the tape hit the desk of John Woodruff, who immediately flew to Brisbane to meet the pair.
Savage Garden, as they became to be known, were signed to columbia for worldwide success. The rest as they say is history...
