Dark Spectacle: the Thoughts on life CD contd.
joey (what does it mean?) (click to view lyrics)
This song is a straight-ahead good-time rock tune, the kind you crank up and roll down the car windows in the summer to listen to. You’ll be reminded of groups like Stone Temple Pilots, 3 Doors Down, Lifehouse and Petra...and Dark Spectacle won’t mind a bit.
road to you (click to view lyrics)
An emotional hard-rock meets lovesong power ballad written by Barbe Paris. Acoustic piano ala Tori Amos with electric guitar in the vein of Creed and Petra. This song follows in the tradition of bands like Staind, Creed, and Fuel making famous the softer side of harder rock.
more than existence (click to view lyrics)
Ever wonder what you’d get if you took the guitars of Megadeth, the drums of Metallica, the bass of Korn and the vocals of Melissa Etheridge? Well, Dark Spectacle did, and what they came up with is a fast-paced cry for deliverance that they called “more than existence.” Just listening to this song will make you short of breath.
tired of being afraid (click to view lyrics)
A slightly slower, very emotional tune, “Tired of being afraid” combines very personal lyrics penned by guitarist Dave Paris with clean and distorted electric guitars. If you didn’t hear the female vocals, you’d probably think this was a song by 3 Doors Down, Fuel or Creed. This is the kind of song you’d listen to on a rainy day.
the old rugged cross (click to view lyrics)
Guitarist Dave Paris gives the rest of the band the night off in this acoustic guitar arrangement of the hymn “the old rugged cross.” Showcasing his background in jazz, this worshipful performance should impress the guitar players listening, and prove that Dave is not just some metalhead that only plays powerchords!
sunrise of my life (click to view lyrics)
This song should win Dark Spectacle some kind of “Most versatile band” award. An acoustic-driven, almost Praise and Worship song, this tune shows Dark Spectacle’s Sunday morning roots. Elements of Jars of Clay, Third Day, Melissa Etheridge, Whiteheart and even remnants of old Margaret Becker are seen here. Only Dark Spectacle could create a song with such drive and such heartfelt worship. Headbangers should just skip over this song.
the Philippians 1:21 paradox (click to view lyrics)
Dark Spectacle was truly blessed to have Glenn Kaiser of the Resurrection Band, the man considered by many to be one of the “Founding father’s of Christian Rock,” open this rock/blues instrumental. Mr. Kaiser performs some blazing blues harp over Dave Paris’ guitar. The intro will have you thinking of everything from back-road blues, to the blues elements of Guardian, AC/DC and Van Halen. This song quickly changes tone as the double kick drums and rumbling bass enter. All the suppressed guitar solos Dave never got to play on the CD come flowing out as Dave “Plays skillfully and with a loud noise.” The middle section features Dave on a talkbox trying to mimic Glenn Kaiser’s harmonica intro except on guitar.
