5 MILES FROM NOWHERE

Eastern Kentucky's hottest young bluegrass band!!!

This band was formed in early 1998 with the original line-up of Phillip Ramey, Brett Ratliff, Aaron Davis, Matt Blanton, and Donald Caudill. They began performing at the Paintsville Recreation Center, where they gained an enormous following. Not long after, things began to pick-up. Despite the loss of bass player Matt Blanton, the band began making lots of public appearances such as the Mountain Arts Center(IIIrd Tyme Out Live at the MAC was recorded there) with new bassman Donnie Witten. Shortly after that, they became associated with Patoker Music Park(home of the RED MULE FESTIVAL) and gained an even larger following. After performances with such acts as Richard Bennett & BlueTown, Melvin Goins, Larry Sparks and many others, the band was invited to perform at the RED MULE FESTIVAL with the likes of Continental Divide, Dave Evans, the Osborne Brothers, and Dr. Ralph Stanley. By this time, the band had a new banjo player(Jim Lee) and had also added a fiddle player(Jesse Wells). Despite being paired with such famous acts, the young supergroup held their ground. The summer of 1999 would see tons of appearences by this young band, including a new affiliation with Kentucky state parks, along with a invite to the Kentucky FolkLife Festival, and a private performance for Governor Paul Patton. However, as the summer came to an end, so did the line-up that fans had grown to love. The original mandolin player Aaron Davis left the band to pursue a career with Charlie Lawson and OakHill. Stepping up to fill the empty spot was fiddle player Jesse Wells, whos musical talents extend far beyond the fiddle and far beyond bluegrass. The band has recorded one album thus far. "Kickin' Grass" is a collection of old bluegrass standards such as Rollin' in My Sweet Baby's Arms. The band is currently wrapping up its first bluegrass gospel album, and planning its next bluegrass albulm, both of which contain mostly original material. If given the chance, I strongly recommend he check out this hard-driving, contemporary bluegrass supergroup. +++UPCOMING PERFORMANCES+++ *May 18-20, 2000 The RED MULE FESTIVAL (Dr. Ralph Stanley, The Lonesome River Band, many more..see Patoker.com) ***Thanks for viewing the 5 Miles from Nowhere website.
