interview from the pimp rock palace:
10.09.00

Bill: Its really exciting. Its nice to have the support to be able to tour and bring the music to the people.

PRP: What was the motivation to re-release the album rather than record a brand new album?

Bill: The main reason was the fact that so few people heard this album and we thought it was a great first impression. So we just went with it.

PRP: You've had a chance to hit the road so far with a few bands in support of the album, how has the experience been?

Bill: It been overwhelming, the fans have been great. It cool to show up in towns I've never been to and have kids come out and sing like word for word.

PRP: While you guys were on tour with Mudvayne, did you ever at any point have the urge to hide their make up?

Bill: After "YOU" gave me the idea the urge was definitely there.

PRP: The band has covered Cypress Hill's track "Insane In The Membrane" on the "Take A Bite Outta Rhyme" CD, how did this come about and are you happy with the finished product?

Bill: The way the offer came about was, the president of Universal asked our A&R guy if we would do the comp, naturally something that helpful for a new band like us couldn't be passed up. So we did it. I think if we had more than a week, like we did, to write, record, and mix the song it could have been done better. But over all I feel its a true Factory 81 song and I like it.

PRP: How do you feel about the whole rap/rock movement and the rush for heavy groups to cover rap material as of late?

Bill: I like everything in moderation. This comp was a good idea to do that type of thing, but I wouldn't expect to find any other rap covers on any of our other releases.

PRP: Have you ever been so lazy that rather than get up you just pissed in a bottle and left it there?

Bill: Pissing in a bottle is necessary on the road when you're driving on the highway and there's no toilet for miles.

PRP: Although you're now part of the Universal family which will no doubt open some big doors for the group, was there any apprehension to be signed to Mojo, an imprint which is comprised of mainly ska bands?

Bill: The fact that it was mostly ska music at Mojo was a very important fact to us. We didn't want to sign to a label that had 20 other bands trying to do the same thing we are. I think we really stand out there which is good. Plus they're all very enthusiastic.

PRP: A video for the track "Nanu" was shot recently, when can we expect to see it begin airing and was there any concept in place?

Bill: As far as when airing is expected, its still to early for me to comment on that. I just received the final copy today. The whole concept from the beginning was to do a live type setting, but not have it all flashy and fake, with like lasers flying all over, or people floating and stuff. We wanted a real raw and crazy show setting.

PRP: Where you at all worried that the re-release of the album would have low sales as you guys have sold quite a few copies of the album independently already?

Bill: That was something that was a concern a long time back but, there are new things to offer on the new release, plus, the real hardcore fan will obviously want to own both.

PRP: Do you feel that the inclusion of the multimedia enhanced section of the CD and the remix was the bands way of giving back to the fans who already had the disc?

Bill: Yeah....that was the main idea behind it. Plus the cool thing about the enhanced footage was the fact that people in other states that haven't seen us can kinda get prepared for when we come to town.

PRP: Just what in the hell is up with the polka sounding stuff that is mixed in at end of "Rotten Strawberries"?

Bill: That's actually Kevin's bass amp getting radio interference. Crazy to have something like that in the studio. At the end of "Belligerence", I believe, there's some more stuff, its like this church channel, you can hear some thing like the angel of the lord come save me or something. Its some weird shit.

PRP: You guys have probably been playing the same material from this album for at least a year, and now with the re-release you are looking at about another year or so of playing it again, do you find the songs lose their intensity as the time passes?

Bill: Actually, The songs still grow. Even the vocals are a little different live than they were on the album. Its not as if we stick to this same exact style....the songs grow with time.

PRP: Have you ever put peanut butter in someone's underwear just to fuck with their head?

Bill: No.....but I've used jelly. I think strawberry preserves really does the trick.

PRP: At recent local shows the band has played quite a few new tracks, how many new songs have you guys written and is there any tentative titles yet?

Bill: There's currently 4 finished tracks. The titles are "Extasy", "May 1st", "Vanity", and there's another with the tentative name "Helena".

PRP: Speaking of new material, when can we expect the band to hit the studio again to record the next album?

Bill: Probably this fall we'll be in the studio pumping out the new material.

PRP: Were you pleased with how the Rhys Fulber remix of "Peace Officer" turned out?

Bill: We're all actually very pleased. Rhys did an excellent job on that one.

PRP: Has a dog ever shit in or on your shoe?

Bill: No... But I've had one shit the bed many a time.

PRP: What can we expect next from the band in the coming months?

Bill: Basically lots and lots of touring. Were gonna be everywhere this spring and summer.

PRP: That's about it, any shoutouts or shameless self promotion?

Bill: Just like to give a shout out to our boys in Taproot, Relative Ash and One Minute Silence. And a big thanks to all the support from the fans that have been coming out to the shows. And thanks to you too Sir.
