interview from indulged:
Factory 81 has to be the only alternative metal band on Mojo Records, and they are proud of it. They bring a fresh sound to the scene and I had the chance of asking a few questions over e-mail to their guitarist Bill Schultz. Their CD Mankind has been on the shelves for a while and I suggest you pick it up. Here's the interview:
Matt: First of all, How is Nate feeling? I heard he has Mono. Tell him I said to feel better! You guys are still scheduled to do a show or two in Massachusetts too. What's up with that?
Bill: Nate's doing fine... The tour for us is going to pick up in Boston. So that will be our Mass. Show.
Matt: I also want to tell you that the Album is really good. A review will be up on the website (http://www.indulged.com/) whenever I have time Its hard to say why I like it but after reading some of the liner notes in the booklet I can see why. It's pretty powerful stuff. Is all of it true? What Nate and his friends went through?
Bill: I'm glad you like the album...thanks. Pretty much everything on the album lyrically is from past experiences of his and different political or social views.
Matt:What are your favorite songs on the album and why?
Bill: I'd say my favorites on the album are Nanu, Peace officer and Diary. I think the reason why they stand out for me is because were a live band and those are the songs I enjoy the most playing live.
Matt: Who are some of your influences?
Bill: As a guitarist my influences are Zakk Wylde, Adam Jones, Stephen Carpenter, Randy Rhodes ect.
Matt: What is in your CD player right now?
Bill: System of a down, A Perfect Circle, Faith No More (Angel Dust) and Taproot.
Matt: What is your favorite show experience and why?
Bill: Actually one experience that stands out for me was the last time we played in Worcester, MA at the Palladium When they lowed our banner before we went on the crowd went nuts....that just pumped us up, cause we knew that it was gonna be a crazy show.
Matt: Do you guys like playing in Massachusetts? I've yet to see a live Factory 81 concert but I know you've played here before and were scheduled to come back.
Bill: Massachusetts is very good to us...great scene.
Matt: What do you think the ultimate Factory 81 Tour would be and with what other bands?
Bill: I think the best tour would be with tool...it wouldn't really matter who else is on the bill as long as it would be with tool.
Matt: How do you like the 'alternative emo/metal' scene right now as a whole? I've heard good and bad from fans and other artists.
Bill: I think that the scene is always evolving and taking little twists and turns which are very interesting to me. I'm very anxious to get back into the studio and give the scene our little twist.
Matt: How did you guys get hooked up with Mojo records? Do they treat you all right? It was kind of shocking to see that a heavy band is on that label. Seeing as its home to bands like, Reel Big fish, Goldfinger, and Cherry Poppin' Daddies. Are any of you into the 'punk/ska' music?
Bill: I don't really think any of us are really into the ska thing. The deal with Mojo was real inviting because of the fact that there's no one else on the label like us so we'd stand out a lot in there eyes. They treat us well also.
Matt: Whose idea was it to have the 81 track thing? I like track 81 it's pretty cool and a good ending to the album. What does the number 81 mean?
Bill: Actually there's no real meaning behind the number. It's just the plant number from a local Chrysler factory. Track 81 was just some little jam that we were playing around with at practice and when it came time to do the album we decided to just throw it in.
Matt: Well I think that's all the questions I have for now. Is there anything you guys want to add Go for it! Thanks for your time!
Bill:Just want to say thanks to everyone for the support and look forward to seeing us live this summer
