As this fish is very hard, and can tolerate a greate range of water chemistries,it is ideal for the beginner. It can be kept with other Amazon fish i.e. discus and other tetras, as long as they are peaceful. As with cardinals, this fish also needs soft, tannin stained,slightly acidic water.
