Hiking in the Huachucas in the afternoons.. these are from the Miller Peak Trail, a 10.6m, approx. 3,000 ft. elevation gain to the highest point in the Huachucas. Awesome.
These pics were along the trail...
You can tell which way the wind blows up here!
Great rock along the trail... Man it makes me drool, until I thing about hauling my pack all the way up.
This is my favorite pic, an aspen groove (either young trees or stunted growth trees).
I reach the "true" summit by standing and balancing on the uppermost rock on the mountain.. Boo-yah!
Coming down the trail, as the sun was setting, shining colors on the rainstorm over Sierra Vista.
These pictures were all taken near the Charleston Bridge area..
We usually begin surveying when the sun rises..
This picture was taken in the mountains near Sycamore Canyon when we were looking for Buff-collared Nightjars.. (There are only a couple in the US, and they are only found in that area!) We were very lucky to see one, and boy did it put on a great show! I took this picture hiking down to the valley nearby where they are found.
More pictures from Sycamore Canyon.
This is a nest-searching area at an old beaver down about a 1/2 mile from Boquillas Ranch, where we usually stay.
These pictures were taken south of the Lewis Bridge, near Duck Pond, another area with a beaver dam (and we actually see beaver down there, too) where I nest search.
The outer edge of the Riparian area, with a great view of both the river and the Huachucas.
Along the trail heading to Duck Pond...
These are all images taken w/in 500 meters of Duck Pond.
An un-spectacular version of the usual sunsets we see from the ranch...
Sundown near the ranch road..
These pictures were taken North of Lewis Bridge, another area with lots of beaver activity (a lot more evident here too) where I nest search. This was a cool-looking dead tree I photographed and then photo-shopped.
More cottonwood north of Lewis Bridge...
This tree is the mother of all awesome trees. I don't remember where it was though, I was asleep in the car the entire drive down to the area. I think it's near Sonoita though..
