The AGGIE ATTACK

After battling for more than 30 years the NMSU Aggies are now officially members of the Western Athletic Conference. As of July 1st the Aggies were members of the conference and will compete this fall and spring for the first time ever in the conference. However the conference won't be totally new to the Aggies as old rivals such as Utah State, Nevada and Fresno State, whom were with the Aggies in the old PCAA and Big West, join the Aggies in the New WAC. Karl Benson WAC commissioner visited Las Cruces recently and noted the importance of NMSU as an addition to the conference. Utep, SMU, Rice and Tulsa have left the WAC to become members of the new watered down CUSA. It's the dog day's of summer, but we are less than two mounts until the new Hall Mumme Aggie Air Raid era of NMSU football officially starts in Las Cruces. September 3rd the Aggies host arch Rival UTEP at Aggie Memorial Stadium. The 1-10 rivalry will be telecast live on ESPNU at 8:30 mountain time, this will be one of at least three Aggie football games to be televised this season. The two others being in Las Cruces against the University of California on ESPN and at Colorado on Fox sports net. The Aggies at Hawaii will also be televised on a fox regional channel. Hal Mumme is taking the Aggies on the road for fall drills in Gallup and getting ready for the miners, that weeks pre rivalry practices will be closed to the public and media as will the week before the unm game. Mumme is also making a mark around the state visiting places like Clovis and other communities getting to know the communities. The naysayers that said Mumme wouldn't look to tap the legitimate NM talent have already been proven wrong. Sources close to this site have indicated offers have already been made to several in state talent. NOTES: Multi million dollar renovation of the Pan American Center is slated to begin in September. Four new lobby arena, additional bathrooms, a practice facility and other new amenities are slated to be added to the nearly 30 year old building. Indication are that a jumbo tron may also be added to the PAC. The PAC, opened in 1968 seats 13K plus people is a multi purpose arena, has hosted top name concerts, NCAA first round basketball games as well as many other events and of course is the home to the NMSU Aggies.
