° The lowdown: Martinez has a 10-5 record in singles play this season. As Martinez goes, so does her team. The Jaguars have posted a 10-5 record. Martinez, whose three-year record is 28-14, is hoping to advance to the state tournament this season. The regionals begin Tuesday.

° Favorite athlete: boyfriend Steven Garcia, a 2003 Desert View grad who plans to play soccer for Pima next season

° Person in the world you'd like to trade places with for a day: Professional tennis player Justine Henin-Hardenne

° Toughest player in Southern Arizona to face: "I'd have to say a team, Catalina Foothills. They are really good."

° Aspirations after high school: Martinez plans to attend Pima Community College and play tennis. She is undecided about what she would like to study.

° Coach-speak: What makes Alisa so special is I don't have to go on her court during a match. She knows what to do. Usually if I go, it is to crack a joke, and the girls hate my jokes. I can worry about the younger players. She is the one who goes out there and knows what she has to do, and that gives the other kids confidence." - Stacy Haines, Desert View girls tennis coach
