Boromir
Dunadan of Gondor, eldest son of Denethor II, named after the preceding. After leading the defense of Osgililiath against Sauron’s armies in June of 3018, Boromir went to Imladis to find the answer to a dream he and his brother had had. Arriving there after a long and arduous journey, he took part in the Council of Elrond and became one of the Companions of the Ring. On Amon Hen, the spell of the Ring, which tempted him at least since Lorien, proved too great for him and he tried to kill Frodo. He immediately repented, but his madness drove Frodo to decide to carry on the Quest alone. This was a good thing, since later that day Amon Hen was raided by Orcs. Boromir died defending Merry and Pippin. Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli gave him a proper funeral and set his body afloat down Anduin.
Although a strong and handsome man and one of the greatest captains of Gondor, Boromir cared little for anything save arms and battle, and was overly proud. As Denethor’s heir, he bore those titles and positions usually possessed by the heir of the Steward.
