The little girl wakes up crying
The memory of the nightmare
Fresh in her mind
The smell of his drunken breath
The feel of his hands
Ripping off her dress
The terrified beating of her heart..
She lies awake
In her warm bed
Reminding herself that she is safe
That he can't get to her now
But dreading the rising of the sun
Which will bring about a new day
And the awakening of the monster
Who fills her days with pain
And her nights with terror..
