Gas Giants, "From Beyond the Back Burner," Atomic Pop
Whatever happened to the Gin Blossoms? Well, for all practical
purposes they became the Gas Giants. Lead vocalist Robin Wilson and
drummer Philip Rhodes parted ways with the Gin Blossoms in 1997 and
formed the Gas Giants along with Tempe, Ariz. guitarist Daniel
Henzerling. On "From the Back Burner," the temperature is turned up to
reflect a more aggressive and slightly harder edge while remaining
true to their desert rock sound. This can be heard in their first
single, "Quitter," which sounds as if it could have come straight off
of the Gin Blossoms debut "New Miserable Experience." Track 11, "Like
it or Not," departs from familiarity and explores a rougher terrain,
complete with a pounding bass drum and distorted vocals. "From Beyond
the Back Burner" has enough spark to ignite these guys to the top once
again.
