ACTS TWENTY SEVEN SUMMARY

I.        THE JOURNEY TO ROME - FIRST LEG( vs. 1-8 ).

A.        PAUL WITH OTHER PRISONERS ARE DELIVERED TO A CENTURION

            NAMED JULIUS OF THE AUGUSTINE BAND.

            1.         A ship of Adramyttium.

            2.         Aristarchus is with the Macedonian is with them.

            3.         The ship is headed for the coast of Asia( Asia Minor ).

            4.         The treatment of Paul by Julius is kindly.

B.         FIRST STOP IS SIDON, PAUL IS ALLOWED TO VISIT ASHORE.

C.        THEY SAIL UNDER THE LEE OF CYPRUS BECAUSE OF CONTRARY WINDS.

D.        THEY CHANGE SHIPS IN MYRA OF LYCIA.  THE NEW SHIP IS OF    ALEXANDRIA, BOUND FOR ITALY.

E.         THE SAIL UNDER THE LEE OF CRETE AND PUT IN AT FAIR HAVENS.

II.       THE SHIPWRECK( vs. 9-44 ).

A.        PAUL'S CONCERN FOR THE SHIP - A WARNING OF LOSS.

            1.         The centurion gives heed to the shipmaster rather than Paul.

            2.         Because Fair Havens was not commodious, they decided to sail to Phoenix on

                        the island of Crete to winter in.

            3.         They are encouraged by a soft south wind and take off.

B.         THE STORM CATCHES THEM.  THE EURAQUILO.

            1.         Driven by the wind.

            2.         The boat secured after passing under the lee of Clauda.

            3.         Freight and tackling cast overboard.

            4.         The storm lasts many days and nights.

C.        PAUL'S WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT( vs. 21-26 ).

            1.         "You should have listened..."

            2.         No loss of life, only the ship.

            3.         An angel had appeared and told him that he would stand before Caesar.

            4.         They must be cast on a certain island.

D.        THE WRECK( vs. 27-44 ).

            1.         On the 14th night they are tossed to and fro in the Sea of Adria.

            2.         They toss out the stern anchors.

            3.         Some of the sailors try to escape in a boat, but Paul tells the centurion that if

                        they leave, all will be killed.  The soldiers cut loose the boat.

            4.         Paul encourages the men to eat.  Paul prays and they eat.  There are 276 people.

            5.         They toss out the wheat.

            6.         They see a bay and decide to try for it.

            7.         The ship is run aground and starts to break up.

            8.         The soldiers desire to kill the prisoners lest they escape, but for Paul's sake, they

                        are saved by the centurion.

            9.         All escape, some by swimming, some on planks and things from the ship.
